the remote app sucks haha. i think they should make the app a apple remote but on the touch screen

I think it's nice for a v1.x s/w ... use it all the time for AirTunes to my bedroom stereo. Controls are the same as iPod. My only complaints are that it sometimes takes awhile to connect to my Network/Library, the volume slider is unresponsive at times, and AirTunes is occasionally spotty (but fixed with a restart of the basestation).

Overall the implementation is great. My home network is a WDS-extended setup consisting of an Airport Extreme 802.11g base station and Express 802.11g remote WDS. I plan to connect the ATV to the LAN port on the base station so as to lessen the strain on the wireless portion of the network.

What sucks is the audio quality from MP3s. Have you listened to a CD lately? Refreshingly better. But a compromise I'm willing to make (most of the time) for convenience.

mine has never frozen but no matter what i try i cant get appletv to stay in itunes hench i can't stream from itunes must sync but i can stream from boxee or xmbc...apple tv shows up and statr syning but dissapears after about 4 minutes....hey at least it doesnt freeze

Not really a freeze, but...

I do have problems where my Apple TV takes forever to sync with iTunes, or not at all, and won't download new shows or movies, even if they're available and I try to force a download.

Unplugging the Apple TV and rebooting will immediately solve any syncing problems or start downloads.

Never really had these problems until version 2.3 of the system software.

Was this thread really made to call out tallest skil? Honestly?

Can any tell if any freezing is due to overheating or some sort of software problem?

I'd say every fourth time i try to turn it on I have to do a reset. Has been this way for awhile.

if i had a nickle for every time my :apple:TV froze, i could but a new :apple:TV

with 1.X my :apple:TV wasn't bad, only freeze like once a week or so. when 2.0 was released it froze all the freaking time, like a couple times a night if i was watching a movie or switching from movies to music or such. whatever the latest update is helped a lot and it went back to the weekly or every other week freezing. when boxee was released for :apple:TV i downloaded it and started watching every night. boxee freezes a lot, but i can't blame that on :apple:TV because it is a 'hack' but even now when im watching a movie or listening to music on the normal :apple:TV function it still freezes every week or so. My guess is because I have all of my media on my mac mini and don't have any data locally on the :apple:TV.

I am curious, all of you people with pefect :apple:TVs that do not freeze, is all of your media stored locally? or do you get it over your home network from a different computer?

I've never had the freeze. All of my content is streamed via an a .g network. Both my parents and uncle also have an ATV with no reported freezes.

My guess is that this might be related to either the version of MacOSX being streamed from and/or whether the machine being streamed from sleeps or is always on.

In my case(s) everyone is using 10.5.6 and has their iMacs set to never sleep. (Only display shuts down.)

Mine does freeze once in a blue moon. It usually happens when I am fast forwarding a movie. My library is on a USB drive that is connected directly to the Apple TV.

I understand that Apple doesn't support external USB drives so I'm not blaming Apple for these crashes. However, I do agree with Tallest Skil ... I REALLY wish they included a reset switch for those rare occasions when a reboot is necessary.

Cheers.
:apple::)

Mine doesn't freeze, it just stops working right. :p After 1-3 weeks of normal operation it will show a white screen when trying to play movies. I have to reboot it to get the video working again.

Wow, when mine goes wrong I get a black screen when I try to play movies. Audio works, music works, menus work, but during movie playback the screen is black. I have to restart the Apple TV to get it working again. This has only occurred since the last 1 or 2 software updates. I regularly run diagnostics (in the hope that I can put all the problems down to hardware failure, and buy a new one) but it always thinks it's fine.

Mine never 'freezes' as such (though it regularly 'stalls' ie. not responding for 10,20, 30 or more seconds), but I regularly have situations where it doesn't wake from sleep properly - I get the 'bong' noise when I press the remote but nothing appears on the screen. Sometimes if I cycle through inputs on the TV it eventually appears.

For my Apple TV it's 'normal' to take a very long time to wake from sleep - often 20-30 seconds (ie. from the first time I press the menu button to something appeairng on the screen).

Also, I intermittently get the outline of the menu box, without any words in it. I have to restart the Apple TV to fix this.

I've restored mine to factory settings on various occasions, so I cannot be bothered to do it again.

Oh, and the latest problem I'm having is the Apple TV, with Airtunes switched on, seems to disappear from iTunes (ie, the speaker option bottom right), and if I switch Airtunes off and back on again on the Apple TV it miraculously appears in iTunes.

I wouldn't be without my Apple TV, but I really hate it too.

What is the definition of "freeze?"

If freeze is an extended pause, then mine does freeze occasionally. It's usually during the start of playing a TV episode. I usually push menu, then play it again and it's fine. I think it a server busy/network busy issue.
My definition of freeze is completely non-responsive for an extended period of time. The amount of time is how patient I am. I thinking 5 minutes of so. That hasn't happened since the earliest version of the software.

the weather feels like... FREEZE

Mine freezes a lot, It's bloody unreliable, it also laggs up 24/7 even over GbE.
