Hey ya.

Just trying to figure out if I should exchange my machine. For me, the touch bar either completely crashes (goes black and requires computer restart to come back) or a bunch of buttons become unresponsive until restart, about 2-4 times per day of work. Usually seems to happen while in Safari (maybe I just go back to Chrome...). It's really annoying because escape is (i'm learning) the most important key on the keyboard after spacebar hahaha.

Anyway, is this the way other peoples' machines behave?

Zero times.

None.

Return yours now.

No crashes, no glitches. Guess I'm the chosen one. That or I actually own one.

Me neither. And my battery life is at least 10.5 hours, sometimes closer to 12. That's the problem with forums like this. The people who post are the minority with issues.

Listen arsewipes, I've been on this forum defending this machine nonstop for weeks. It's the best computer I've ever owned. But I'm allowed to ask about an issue I have, to determine if it's unique or widespread.

If you have a "problem" with it, then just GTFO. End of story.

Agreed. If you spend time using a text editor or any other tool that requires you to press the esc often you want a physical key.
I use vi/vim often (read: many times a day) and I disagree with needing a physical key for it. My muscle memory allows me to hit the virtual esc key each and every time and when I do I get instant feedback. It isn't any different than on my previous Mac with a physical esc key except for tactile feedback (there isn't any).

I do find it a bit awkward to have the esc say "done" when I want to cancel a spotlight search though, but other than that "done" still does the same thing.

This could very well be personal preference.

I definitely think it is a personal preference thing. I would even prefer the escape key to be bigger, and more importantly, offset from other key like you have on an external keyboard, which is what I use most of the time. And of course with the same feel, travel and clickiness, as the other physical keys.

Once. Was in Boot Camp, was hitting the escape button several times in a row because of an unresponsive program. Touch Bar just disappeared instead. Had to reboot to restore functionality.

Every time it turns off after some idle time. When I move the mouse it flashes once and goes dark again. Touching the bar shows only the button used... Pressing Fn key shows F keys and it's almost fine - apart from missing Esc key.

No need to restart. But is't really annoying.

I have/had a similar issue. It went back to normal after doing a nvram and smc reset.

Do you use an external monitor? On my computer it seems the problem started by unplugging the monitor while the macbook was in sleep mode. Maybe this somehow distorted the smc/nvram settings... Anyone has a clue?

For years I had no issues but now it crashes a few times per week. A restart fixes it every time.
