Just think of the 13 inch MacBook Pro. They're basically the same size, except the iPad is thinner unless you pair it with the MK then it's thicker and just as heavy. I'm going to assume you will be using a case, so that will add to the thickness. If you feel comfortable with the 13 inch laptop size range, then you should be just fine.
I don't know about the 13” M1 MBP, but while they have the same height my 2014 13” MBP is 1.25” wider.

I have no problem with mine as an art tablet and have been pretty happy with it for the past year. I was worried I'd want a larger screen than 12.9", but it still works for me. I would never go smaller, though.

The thing that gets awkward is when it comes to the rest of the "computer" side, doing things combined with having to freehand hold it. It's possible to manage, but it's more relieving to have some sort of keyboard case to hold it up for me.

Hi everyone

I am trying to get an iPad on the road to use as sketch book. I know most people recommend 11 inch. It is a bit small on my taste, really want to get a bigger canvas. What do you think the portability for 12.9 inch ? I will carry it around everyday. Is it doable ?
How will you protect it? Type of case? That matters significantly at this size. 11 to 12.9 doesn’t sound like a huge difference in weight but it certainly is. Adding a case exacerbates the difference.

Yeah of course. Imagine an A4 or office sized folder. That's how big it is.
This is true and on paper it's perfectly fine, but in practice I found it clunky. It's heavy to hold and maneuver like a tablet, but clunky as a laptop. I found it bulky to use in the car or couch and have ended up reaching for my phone more often than not.

In the end all, it's an entirely subjective evaluation and whatever others think, your own personal experience is what matters, i.e., you have to try it for yourself.

I think it is subjective, but while I loved the screen dimension, I am more happy with the 11 i have now.

For me the 11 is the perfect size, and i can connect an external monitor when i need more.

This is ever lasting dilemma.
Now i own: M1 12.9 (with MK)
M1 11.0
MBP 16
(previously macbook pro 13 and macbook pro 14)
I kept few months ago both ipads just because i did want to take decission which i like more.
To be honest reading, wathing you tube etc much better on ipad pro 11 - 12.9 i feel uncomfortable holding it for longer time.
When i want to do some more serious work i just grab macbook - much more comfortable with macos. I triend setups with my studio monitor ( ipad stage manager etc) but with actual version of ipadOS serious work is very limited.

Not too many people mention that the M2 Ipad Pro 12,9 sucks juice pretty fast.. I feel like its not great for extended real work on the road, and I turn on battery saving to extend it further. Frankly, one of my biggest disappointments of it is the batterylife.

But if you can charge up a bit at the coffeeshop or wherever you go, its great value and powerful.

Just be aware that M2 devices are basically overclocked M1’s… This SHOULD change with M3.
