How should I set up the iPad to give to my parents?

I have the same problem, and I'm no expert at iTunes.

I'd love to give my parents an iPad fully loaded up with family pictures, but then how do they add more pictures in the future without erasing the originals?

If they set up manual sync'ing of folders, will that allow them to leave the originals movies and photos alone?

Otherwise, I might wait to see if Android based slates have better options available.
