How the Galaxy s3 compares to the iphone

So I bought s3 last week, since I have 30 days to return it, I'd figure I would try it out and return it if the new iphone is amazing. I've been using iphones since the 3g, so here's what it does better than the iphone 4/4s

The screen is huge and way clearer than the iphones retina one is. I'd have a hard time going back to the smaller iphone screen now that I've been using this one (when I look at my iphone now it looks so tiny).
Android is way more customizable than iOS and funner to use. iOS is pretty stale to me and I love the openness of being able to download anything from the google play store

Swype texting is better than the basic keyboard on the iphone

4G speeds are nice.

Cons:
Battery only lasts half the day on a charge. (I think this is more and android problem with apps running in the background)

Awkward to talk on. The huge screen is nice, but a little to big to hold to my ear.

The speaker is on the back - Kills the sound volume when I set it down.

Still on 4.0 and not 4.1 - the good thing about apple you can update your OS that day. Jelly bean's google voice looks amazing I wanted to try it (only the nexus phones get updated right away)

Overall if it had a 4.3 in screen (4.8 is too big) and a better battery I would prefer it to the iphone. I still think it's a better phone, but I shouldn't have to run a task manager all the time having your battery on 10% by 3-4 pm sucks

Syning to my mac - I found alternatives with isyncr and google cloud, but it's kind of a pain not using itunes

I know iOS is stale, but if the next iphone increases the screen size to 4-4.3" I'll probably buy it. I love iOS, even though android is a flat out better OS,
anyways I was bored as hell watching the pirates game so I figured I'd make this little comparison. Any one else use the s3 yet? what's your opinions on it

I felt really bullish on the s3 at first, but it wasn't quite the all around phone the iPhone is IMO, so I returned it.

I am doing the same thing... using the GS3 while I wait for the new iPhone...

Basically, if I wasn't so invested in iTunes, iOS, and iCloud... I would keep it. I have purchased so many apps. I have a Zeppelin Air sound dock with Air Play, I have an Apple TV. My car as a factory iPod Hook Up which is SUPER NICE.

I love this phone, it is so much better than the S2 I had for work. The battery is pretty nice IMO. I haven't had a problem running LTE all day long. I am not even to 60% yet.

My other issue should be a non issue but it is an issue none the less. I would be stuck with it for 2 years... Right now I alternate between my upgrade and my girlfriends... This allows me to get the new iPhone each year. I like the GS3 a lot, but I know a year from now when there is a new Nexus phone and other Android phones and the new iPhone, I will want something different.

I ended up taking it back today. As great as the screen is, it's to big to talk on, battery sucked, and call quality sounded like I was under water.
I still think android is better than iOS for power users. I think it's retarded that the carriers dictate when I can update to jellybean. I like how apples OS's are available that day.
and Most of the stuff I use (like my car stereo) aren't compatible with android only apple products. A 4.3" screen would be perfect for the next iphone mine seems so tiny now

That's Verizon's "droid" series. And the Galaxy S3 is not a "droid series" phone. So no, it doesn't say "droid" when it boots up.

My S3 battery lasts all day. I get home at 7pm with 40% of battery. All you have to do is tweak it a little bit. Shut down some things that suck uo your battery. Live wallpaper, Facebook, emails and some widgets may use a lot of battery power.

Things you can do..

1. sync your emails every hour
2. Sync Facebook manually
3. Put your display brightness in automatic

There are other things you can do.. search in google and you will find more tips

i was considering getting a s3 as a 2nd phone but hate that droid sound. its like windows laptops with stickers all over it "intel inside" the huffington post did a good article regarding demographics iphone vs android.

I don't understand. There is no "droid" sound. At least on my ATT version. It just boots up silently. Boots to Samsung Galaxy S3 logo, than ATT "rethink possible" logo, than Samsung screen than on. But no sound that says "droid"

You've also got to keep in mind that Apple develops their OS for exactly one series of phones.

Android updates need to be ported to several different platforms, which takes time.

But I agree, I'd love to not have carriers spend forever to install their bloatware.

I dont know why people dont change those tones. I had the very first droid, as soon as I got in the car every "droid" sound was disabled. Very annoying. But as mentioned above, the S3 doesnt have those sounds at all.

Even when the Verizon droids said droid you could change it to something else. I also hate that noise.

I think the biggest thing with the battery is because of playing with the new phone all the time and people compare it to their old phone that wasn't used as much as a new one is.
My battery has improved allot on my HOX now that I have it set up the way I want it and got most all the apps that I needed.

I recently got an S3 and I'm not impressed with the battery life. Maybe you're right but I just ordered 2 extra batteries and a charger for them. I'm always carrying a bag or wearing a jacket so carrying one extra battery with me won't be a hassle at all. I would have done the same thing with my iPhone if it was possible.

First couple of days are rough. After a few charge cycles the battery life improves. You can disable all extra bloatware if there is any on the international version.

I'm running a custom Google based ROM so no bloatware.

I find the battery far superior to iPhone. I used to go to work on 100%, listen to music for maybe 2-3 hours, some light 3G usage and be back on 30% by 4pm!

With my S3, I go to work on about 85% (I no longer charge this phone over night, just once in the evening), use it for the same periods of time and it's still on 60% by 4pm. I then stick it on charge about 8.30 until I go to bed at 11 when it's at 100%.

With the fact its running a far more vivid, 1.3" larger display, a quad core CPU and double the ram I find the battery impressive.

My Galaxy S III is somewhat more complicated than my iPhone 4S.

Yet I am a technologist & enjoy all that I can do with the Android OS. That doesn't make it better, just different.

I like iOS, and Android nearly equally. But then again I'm one that enjoys all platforms & the variety & challenges they bring.

If not for the brilliant iOS, my parents, wife, and family, that are not tech enthusiasts, wouldn't have smartphones they enjoy so much.

For myself & friends & even my son, Android is lots of fun.

The one common denominator that causes most bashers to dislike Android, is the fact that it's not iOS, and they expect it to be. Therefore they fail to take time and learn it.

Not knowing how to use it, the moment some issues arrise due to user error, they remember reading about others who also reported the same thing. Ignorance then cheats them out of a great experience.

Rarely have I read where a person has taken the time to learn it, then intelligently listed what they didn't like. It's not for everyone, I understand those who list it's true faults, not those that just pile on popular myths.

Use what you like, but be fair to yourself instead of jumping to an uneducated conclusion.

I'll use both concurrently as I do now. They're that good.
