Since you can charge an iPhone when near a power outlet, car, or USB port, I don't really have much of a problem. I don't go all out playing these games on here, which means less than 30 minutes whenever I do. Most of the time it's more like 15 minutes when doing something like waiting for a doctor. Scrabble runs the battery down, but it's not like flooring a V8 engine in first gear for 10 minutes. It still does fine considering you're taxing the resources.

I haven't looked at this for iPhones, but I know Energizer and others made portable battery packs to use on either iPods or cell phones. You just plug them into the right port. If someone hasn't done this for iPhones, they're missing out on huge bank.

I use my iPhone throughout the day and have never had a battery issue.

Typical day consists of:
30-45 minutes of pulling data off Edge.
45-60 minutes of talking on Edge. Often on bluetooth.
30 minutes of music.
30 minutes of messing with games or other applications.

I have:
No 3 G coverage, so it's turned off.
No need to fetch.
WiFi is left on all the time.
Location services turned off unless I need it (rare).

With this usage, I've never been below 50% when I go to bed at night. And on two occasions, I've easily gone 2 days (with this type of usage) between charges. (although I usually charge it every night)

Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble. Have you considered getting a car charger or plugging it in back in your room or apartment?

1)
2) turn on your wifi only when needed = 2-3 hours more battery life

Yeah right.

I have wifi turned on all the time and hardly notice any difference when I have it turned off except for the "times I need it". I have the Ask to Join Networks setting off and have all my WiFi spots (on campus, at home, transit) all remembered. The iPhone routinely disconnects from WiFi when locked. I use it as a daily planner for class on campus so it is connected to WiFi without actually using data at least an hour per day while I use the calender, OmniFocus, etc.

I average around 7 hours of using and nearly 3 days of standby time between charges (I always fully charge when plugged in). Keep WiFi on if you find it useful. For the longest time I was too paranoid to have turned on because of myths like the one quoted above and now I am glad to finally use it to its full potential.

I have a first gen iPhone and I have absolutely no problem with the battery at all.

After a full charge in the morning, by the time i head to bed around 1-2 am i still have at least 40% battery.

i talk on the phone anywhere from 1-3 hours a day. I browse the internet over EDGE for maybe 30 minutes a day. I play games for about an hour a day, and will listen to music for maybe two hours a day.

I always have Wifi and bluetooth off unless i want to use them. I have the brightness set to about 35%.

i think you should be getting more charge out of your battery. I play games all day and never worry about my battery.

im also a college student though i haven't use it on school since im on vacation now but in a week im going back im dying to see how the battery is going to hold up specially how it will behave after all those hours between classes adn those boring clases in which ill probably browse the web or play a game. i jsut have two free games i have played them while im charging the phone so i dont know how battery it uses. i ahve bluetooth off 3d on and locations on always i fetch every 30 minutes. I am preparing for college im going to bring the charger with me at all times and i do have an extra cable conected to my ipd dlo fm transmitter that will let me charge it while driving. i dont use my iphone for music i have my ipod video with 40 gigs that take care of my almost 10 gigs of music. depending on use i migh charge my iphone once every night but the meter shows green i guess if i let it go to red it will last a day and a half. sometimes i get 2 days with one full charge.
