I have a 2009 mini with the Mini-DVI port I wish to connect it to a standard boaring CRT tv in the UK, on ocation. Usung Componet (The Yellow plug).
Actually, what you're calling component is actually composite. Component is the Red/Green/Blue connectors.

1)No mention of the Mini on review/ description
because this adapter is not compatible with any Mac with the nVidia graphics. This will only work on Macs with the Intel graphics and perhaps the earlier Macs with discrete video cards.
PS, before some one says I need to change my TV... It works :), and this adapter lark is for occasional use.. £20 adapter would be fab as I have all the other cables... Even the NEWEST TV's still tend to have component in some form/SCART so I can take my little Mini around to the relatives and show them photo's etc, what ever TV they have.
Yeah, I get that you want something to connect up to from time to time. Either way, you'd probably be disappointed anyways, since composite is limted to such low resolutions (720x480 in the US and I think 720x576 in the UK) and the typical 10% overscan. I used to connect my iBook to an old TV and it was pretty useless. The only thing that was acceptable was watching DVDs.

I guess this is the Baahhh Humbug! Moment.

Ho hum..

I'll just get a VGA monitor adapter then, at least I can then connect it to their PC monitors then!

Thanks

You should be able to use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and then add a Component adapter on top of that. It should work just fine, because VGA carries RGB signals, and RGB is how Component works.

something like this should work
http://www.rackmount-devices.com/050-2409.html

This one will probably not work. If you check on monoprice, the Knowledge Base for these cables specifically say this, "THIS CABLE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER'S VGA PORT TO THE COMPONENET INPUT ON YOUR HDTV unless your video card supports component out function through it's VGA port (please confirm with your video cards documentation before purchasing)."

I don't think the mini's have this ability. I think these are for older ATi video cards that specifically supported this. Besides, Wheaty is looking for composite video.

At this point, it would be more hassle and cost than it's worth. mini-DVI (or miniDP) to VGA. Active VGA to Composite converter. You need some sort of converter to go from VGA to composite (or component) and they cost in the range of $100 (and even then, the reports of success are mixed).

I'd rather do without or save the $100 for a new TV.

You right, I am after Compsite.. I have confused the issue slightly my self!

The Yellow plug... Video the whole video, and nothing but the video!

Get to that and I know where I am... however I'm definitely not in the mood to spend more than £20 on an adapter for occasional use.

Anyway, thank you all for your help, I think this has explained away my confusion nicely..
