Hi guys,

I use Sequoia and wanted to run Tahoe in a virtual machine (UTM). To do this, I needed to install the developer tools, specifically Xcode. Since only version 26.4 is available in the App Store—which can no longer be installed on Sequoia—I had to download Xcode from the Apple Developer website.

To download it, I had to accept the developer agreements with my account. Now I have Xcode installed and everything works, but in system preferences under “Software Update,” there is now a beta profile (also on iPhone under same account), even though I am not registered with the Beta/Developer Beta program.

How can I log out of the Apple Developer website https://developer.apple.com/account? I can’t find an option for that there?

How can I believe it when you say "a couple of years" and I did not have the beta profile till yesterday?

So there must be a connection between installing Xcode (or registering to download it) and the appearance of the betaprofile.

I just don't want Apple to gain any rights through the registration that it didn't have before (e.g., tracking, analytics, etc.)

My Mac has never been in the beta programme, but the Beta Updates option still shows up.

Maybe not your Mac but your account?

And my iPhone also shows the beta option now. So it must be the account, not the devices or OSes.

Beta profile is available to all users, not just Beta/Devs. This was a change a couple of years ago.
This is incorrect.

The public beta program shows up when one signs in at beta.apple.com and accepts the terms there. If one does not want to be in the public beta anymore or have the public beta program show up, they can click 'Unenroll' at the very bottom of the page and then 'Leave Apple Beta Software Program'.

The developer beta program shows up when one signs in and accepts the terms at developer.apple.com. However, unlike the public beta program, Apple currently does not offer a way to leave the developer one.

My parents have done neither of the above, and the 'Beta Updates' option on the 'Software Update' screen doesn't even show up at all on their devices. All they see is 'Automatic Updates' on the 'Software Update' screen. I have done both in the past, but left the public beta program. That one no longer shows up for me in the list of beta programs, but the developer beta program still does. I'd love to leave that one as well so that it doesn't show up on my devices anymore.

Good to know. I made a developer account eons ago, well before there was a Beta Updates feature inside the OS, so I'd just assumed that it showed up for everyone. Presumably FreakinEurekan thought the same thing.

Even if you don't reply directly to me as the person who asked the question, you answered the question I asked, thx.

So my initial assumption in (#1 and #5) that it had to do with registration or acceptance into the developer program was correct.

That's how it's been for me so far, too.

So do I.

I'd love to leave that one as well so that it doesn't show up on my devices anymore.

That's why I have asked.

It has nothing to do with:

Believe it or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ up to you.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist—no hard feelings. 😀😇)

I will ask Apple support directly to delete developer registration.
