How to Disable Presentation Mode

Hello.

I recently purchased an LG external monitor for my 2013 MBP. Whenever I connect it via the HDMI interface, it runs in Presentation Mode, and hides all the icons on the desktop. Is there way to use an external monitor, without presentation mode coming on automatically? I searched the web, etc and I didn't see a solution for this.

I think you want to check "mirror displays" in the display preferences under arrangement.

I did and it didn't help. I want to extend the displays rather than mirror them. Thanks anyway.
