I bought my rMBP on 16 september, 2014.

2.6 GHz, 16 RAM, 256 SSD.

When i was running mavericks on macbook it was fine, but ever since i updated to yosemite. I noticed lags in mission control and switching between windows. I have to use " reduce transparency" to make it less annoying.

I've try reset PRAM, it works for a while and then thing gets slow again. I don't know if it's just me, but i'm really disappointed. I spent money on thin machine and this is not what i expected.

Is this a hardware issue or just software issue? cause one of friend brought a base model and it worked really smooth.

I'm having the exact same problems in retina Pro 2.8GHz, 8 RAM, 512 SSD. After a while it gets real sluggish for a 2000$ machine. I did the same as you and it gets slow after a while...

There's noticeable UI lag in certain programs or functions (e.g., scrolling album view in iTunes). I'd wait for the next update before passing any judgement on performance.

This lag is since first Retinas came to market. So for two years Apple did nothing to repair scroll lag in iTunes. As well as notification panel. Don't count on them making it now. It's sad cause overall it's a very good pc, but those lags are destroying whole fun using it.

rMbp is my first Apple product and must say the last one. Sorry but i can play most recent games using Bootcamp, with great graphics and so on...but i can't scroll smooth through my music albums. And Apple sad to say give a s%it about it.

I'm seeing a lot of lag too. If I reboot, it fixes it for a few days, then it always returns eventually. This is a software issue for sure. Mavericks was super butter smooth and it felt great to use. Yosemite just feels laggy and bloated.

yosemite is bad coding/driver OS, stay with mavericks or even MT Lion if you can and wait for some fixes but i highly doubt it with federighi in charge.

I had the same UI lag when I upgraded from Mav to Yosemite, but yesterday, I did a clean install of Yosemite and so far, everything is buttery smooth. I hope it lasts though...

Clean Install Macbook 2.26 Unibody,4 g ram,stock 250g hd...

Zero lag...Yosemite runs better then Mavericks.

I'm wondering if perhaps it's a gpu driver issue for some? (mine being a GeForce 9400M)

Zero lag on a 9400M? I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe.

My Mac Mini also has a 9400M GPU and Yosemite is far from being lag-free.

I also had to downgrade my Late 2013 rMBP (Iris Pro graphics) to Mavericks because of the choppy GUI in Yosemite.

I don't get why they can have a smooth as butter iOS but a laggy OS X. I thought with the movement a year or two ago they had the iOS and OS X teams work closely and share resources.

I had a really weird issue: my mac was running Yosemite fine without any lag, but after clearing some system caches with a third party app UI performance went down. I had to do a clean install to fix it all.

So if you cleared a bunch of system caches related to graphic you should try a clean install.

I did that a few days ago. It works for a while and things will get laggy again.

And a "fresh" install will give you a placebo effect for a while till you load some apps and start using the computer for what it is intended... I personally don't think we will see a proper fix for some time.

For those who "upgraded" Yosemite run the free application EtreCheck and run it. Whatever shows up in Red means it is incompatible with 10.10.x and will show the path so you can delete or upgraded the service, etc. IMHZp if you delete a service immediately reboot.

Doing all this should help and can speed up the upgrade.

This is my biggest complaint since updating to Yosemite. I like the OS itself, but I have so much issue with switching spaces. I use spaces like crazy and is one of my favorite things about OSX. However, since updating to Yosemite, about 50% of the time, while using 3 finger swiping to change spaces, it will simply stop halfway. I will have half of one space and half of another. I will have to do another three finder swipe again and sometimes two or three times before it finally will finish switching spaces. I also have issues with volume control taking 2-3 seconds to respond. Highly annoying. Those with the constant wifi issues are making me think about trying to return to Mavericks. Both my 15" and my 13" MBPr have the same issue leading me to believe it is software related.

Hey, I did a clean install two days ago even though people told me it wouldn't help. But i did a PRAM right after clean installation. Now i wanna say things are way better than it was before. i still experience minor lag but that's really negligible .

Ok, now mission control is pretty smooth. But occasionally i still experience some lags while switching between windows(Weird, cause I'm only running safari with a few tags, and eclipse in another windows)
