+ 1 MetaX, I was strictly using the Mac version of MetaX, BUT, I started using it on the PC side via VMFusion because the PC version of MetaX enables you to add the "HD" tag to the movie so that when it shows up in iTunes, it says "HD"...
SirCrumpet said:iFlicks also does a fantastic job at automatically adding metadata. I've switched to it from MetaX.
When ripping the movies, what resolution / quality does everyone use? I'm trying to find the best quality for both my iPhone and my iPad without having to keep two different copies of the movies. It just seems like a waste of space to me. I've been using Videora for my conversion but I'll gladly switch to something else if I can get the chapter list and have everything look like it does with iTunes.
I just downloaded MetaX for Windows and I'm going to give it a shot when I get home.
Depends on the source, for standard DVDs I've just been using the AppleTV preset in Handbrake.

Could someone please help? Not sure what I'm doing wrong...
This is my workflow to get Avatar DVD on my iPad
1) Use Fairmount to produce video_ts folder
2) Use Handbrake to make .m4v file. Set to Apple TV Pre-set. Forced Subtitles. No Other changes.
3) Use MetaX to get DVD info.
The problem I'm having occurs in stage 3. As soon as I use MetaX, I get one of three things. Video with no audio, no video and audio or white video and no audio. I've tried iFlicks and all others mentioned, still get the same results.
What am I doing wrong?
Everything is fine and dandy after you handbrake it?
Probably not... you're at the mercy of what people have put into the various databases that apps like Subler check (TagChimp, Netflix, etc.).Do any of them do movies that haven't been released to DVD yet? I've downloaded some early movies and Subler doesn't have their info in their database yet.
I've been using either RipIt (Mac) or AnyDVD (Windows) to create a copy of the DVD on my hard drive (not as a .iso file, but instead as a subdirectory under Movies/DVDs) and then using Handbrake to create the .m4v file. It doesn't seem to have any problem preserving the chapters doing it this way. What do you rip with to maintain the chapters? I tried ripping just the main .ISO file, which was about 2.8GB and when I used Handbrake to do the conversion, I checked the maintain chapters button, but nothing happened.
Metax which is a plugin for iTunes can do this pretty much automagically
iFlicks is fantastic for TV Show episodes metadata (it uses thetvdb.com). However, it costs $30.
