iPhone How to Reject/Block an IOS Software Update

It would point the device to check for tvOS beta updates but since those wouldn't be compatible with the device it would always look like there are no available updates.
Yeah. And it works. I used it for about 6 months to keep my SE on iOS 9, and I'm using it now to keep my 7 on 10.
I don’t think Apple will fix it luckily! TvOS is still iOS, so it works for this stuff naturally. If TvOS has beta profiles (I never used it before), I’m sure it’d work on there by using an iOS 11 beta profile to not update.
Yes but we all know how Apple likes to push updates and there is no reason why they couldn’t differentiate between an iPad/iPhone and an Apple TV if they want to lock people out of this workaround.
Lets hope this doesn’t happen though!
10/2/17 Update - I downloaded the IOS 11.0.1 update by mistake. Now when looking at "Software Update" it has a link "Install Now" as the only option. I will not install it; however, I am concerned about it installing on its own. Is there anyway to avoid it installing the update automatically?
Can't you delete the download from Settings-->iPhone Usage? Somewhere in there, don't have it handy at the moment.
You can't turn off iOS automatic updates. Apple tries to get everyone on the latest even when the latest is terrible and people don't want it. Just an hour ago I had someone come up to me with their iPhone saying their phone updated itself and now they can't get Wifi to connect. I fiddled with it and still couldn't get it to cooperate. In reality iOS 11 is no different than 10 from a basic user standpoint. There's not really any reason to update from 10 or even 9. Alas, the app developers will change that and force them to do so. This is one of the things I hate about Apple (only recently though), their planned obsolescence and forced upon updates. On the Mac side it isn't as bad, and you can always downgrade to the previous version, but iOS, you're basically screwed.
No, your phone doesn't update the OS unless you agree to allow it to update while charging. If you opt out, it will not update or even notify you that an update is available.
The entire computer industry is moving towards mandatory updates. Game consoles have been this way for some time, I imagine in another 2-3 years the option to delay/disable updates of the OS/apps will be removed entirely and it'll all happen in the background automagically.
I keep seeing threads of people whose phones updated to iOS 11 without their consent overnight... I was not aware that Apple could force an iOS update however.
Yeah, and how often do you think people tap yes when they are in a hurry having no clue what they just did. Thy don’t make the no buttons obvious either. iOS doesn’t need to nag people for updates. iOS 8 and older would give one massage saying that an update was available and would never ask again.
Well that's the fault of people not the technology or even Apple. Those people need the updates because they are the most at risk of security problems. These are the same people that need auto Do Not Disturb turned on to stop them from reading while driving. You can't fix stupid, but you can try to help them along.

You know, I’m just going to stop talking. iOS 11 is too much of a mess to justify the reasons provided to update to it. My phone crashes a lot, things glitch and don’t appear where they should, apps have issues with crashing upon on even on the latest version, camera has an issue with breaking and saving blank images and videos when shooting, etc. It’s just too bad of an update to install at the moment. It might get fixed, but for now I would avoid it. I’m still trying to get back to 10, but iOS 11 is screwing my phone up too much to maintain my information in the downgrade process. I always have no choice to update back to 11 every time and it really aggravates me.
No one cares if you install iOS 11 or not. You’re not forced to like you claim.
To return to iOS 10 you need to put your iPhone into DFU mode and restore from a computer with iTunes. Don’t use a backup with iOS 11. If you need to use a backup to restore files make sure it’s a backup from iOS 10.
LOL, you must think I'm dumb. Yeah no my iOS 10 backup doesn't work and putting it in DFU mode has nothing to do with the downgrade process at all.
I had an "update available" prompt a few days ago with options for "Now" and "Later". I tapped Later and it asked for my passcode "so that it can install it overnight" (or words to that effect). I had to tap a comparatively small "do not install" option.
I suspect that people aren't reading properly and are scheduling the update instead of cancelling it.
Best to probably go and delete the downloaded update from storage so that you aren't promoted anymore (until the next time it might get downloaded, unless you install a tvOS profile to prevent that).
The tvOS updates are stored in a different directory and the .plist would indicate that your iPhone is not compatible with that software.

Don’t do this if you have multiple devices that you want to update though.
You are the real MVP! I’ve been trying to figure out how to get the 11.1 beta out of my settings for 2 days now. It somehow carried over even though I deleted the beta profile. Thanks a lot for this info.
