I can't see my device in running iOS 12.4 in Finder on mac running macOS Catalina :(

OMG I FOUND MY FIX

I enabled everything in ‘Locations’ within the Finder’s preferences under the ‘Sidebar’ tab. Rebooted. Unlocked the devices prior to plugging them to Mac. And NOW THEY SHOW UP.

Wtf, I’m assuming that iPod toggle needed to be checked. They need to change that to iOS devices lol

Ok, it took me some help from someone but I finally got mine to load. I had to turn off find my iPhone first. Then, hold down the OPTION key while you hit "Restore iPhone". that will bring up a window where you point the computer to the IPSW file.
Do not hit the RESTORE option if you want to keep your current settings and apps. This wipes the phone completely.
Hold the Option key and select "Check for update". From there you can browse and select the IPSW file and perform an upgrade instead of a clean install.
No need to delete your iOS 12 beta profile.
Upgrade took about 10-15 minutes on my XS.

Thanks for the reply; did you rename the IPSW file or anything??? I've tried that!!! but once i click on the IPSW file it just goes to blank....
This is normal... it will come back once the upgrade or clean install is finished.

I can’t update my iPad! Does anyone know of a fix?
Did you download the correct IPSW file for your model iPad?
You have to use the correct one or it will not work.

I’m positive I have the right one, IPSW says iPad Fall 2018, I have the latest iPad Pro too. I redownloaded it, yet I still get an error that says ‘unknown’

I don't even get an error!!!

I don't get any response... It's not installing nor extracting it nor nothing, it just goes blank...

Try Go into Finder settings -> sidebar -> activate "CDs, DVDs and iPods"

How I got iOS 13 installed on my iPhone:

  • Have OS 10.15 installed.
  • Have the new Music App closed. Just close it.
  • Have the iPhone plugged into my Mac.
  • Open a Finder window, then select the iPhone in the left column.
  • Hold down OPTION and select the RESTORE button (system wipe) or hold down OPTION and select the CHECK FOR UPDATE OPTION (if it's available). This latter won't be a system wipe.
  • The Finder window then went blank. Nothing. Just be patient. In a few minutes my iPhone was rebooting. So be patient.
  • iOS 13 was then installed.
Notes: it was a pain to get the Finder window to load and stopping spinning with null results after I selected the iPhone in the left column... to get the options buttons to show to do a restore. Keep closing the Finder window and reopening or restart and try again.

Thanks.... Im doing all that, except being patient.... I will give it once last go.... thanks man!!

Be patient bro!

I can't get pass the blank Finder page; the iPhone does nothing either.... maybe I'm missing something??? I deleted the iOS 12 Beta Profiles, I have Xcode 11; I'm also pretty sure I have the correct IPSW, (iPhone112iPhone116_13.0_17A5492t_Restore) for an iPhone XS (If I could even get an error that would be awesome)

... I'm not sure what else could I try but to wait; again, very frustrating!!

Make sure XCode is shutdown. Try also restarting. And give it ten minutes after you restore to see if the iPhone responds.

I believe it's a bug cos if i switch the Finder to Fullscreen, as soon as the new Finder mini window drops to select the IPSW file, everything freezes... I have tried rebooting, turning WiFi Off on both devices, I don't even get an error it just goes to that blank page and the iPhone does nothing... Its not locked or anything cos if i go to another device from the side bar the iphone just shows up again as if I had just connected it; I've tried different cables, different ports... nothing!!! haha

When restoring to ios13, does it wipe the iPhone and then you have to add all your stuff again?

Just create a backup before doing the restore. I was able to restore from my 12.4 beta backup.

Looks about right. The only thing I did before was remove the beta profile and delete a download of a beta that was saved on my phone from the storage.

Ahh!!! I do have an old iOS 12.3 IPSW saved on my iTunes Library..... I'll try deleting that and I'll do the backup to try to restore too if this makes any difference.

Update: Nope... It MUST be a Bug cos I even put the phone on DFU mode and tried to download the 12.3 iOS as if it were downgrading from the PB and it does the same "goes to blank".....
It's a shame!!!

Also also... the same thing happens (well, the same "nothing happens") on an iPad... so; I'm kinda guessing it's a bug on Catalina.... but as I've said before... then they should tell you "DON'T upgrade Mac OS before iOS cos it might not work!"

Any who, thanks to all the replies!!!!

I've just tried to install iOS 13 on my iPhone Xs Max on MacOS 10.15. My iPhones showed up in Finder, so I downloaded the correct restore file from the developers portal and tried restoring my iPhone. Unfortunately it stopped and now my iPhone shows a screen where I need to connect to iTunes, but guess what.. iTunes is not on this MacOS and trying to install a downloaded iTunes version gives a 'cannot install' notification. Rebooting the iPhone is not working either. Anyone a clue how to solve this?

Finder basically acts like iTunes now. I got that same image on my iPad 2018 for a few seconds and then it rebooted and started to install. I did an upgrade though not a restore.

Rebooted my Mac. Now it showed up again, however I'm getting this error all the time:

The iPhone “iPhone” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (75).

You might have to put your phone into DFU mode since you probably interrupted the restore the first time.
