How to stop iPhone from automatically calling missed calls

Is there a way to change a setting so that my iPhone doesn't automatically call missed callers. This happens ALL the time. When I miss a call and look ans scroll through the call history to see who called... Even if I just press the number then my iPhone just dials the number.

If its the latter, that's the way iOS is set up. You can't click the number to view, you need to click the blue arrow on the right to view the next screen. Clicking the number itself will immediately dial.

Sorry. I didn't phrase my post very well. Let me try one more time. You are right. My iPhone doesn't actually dial the missed caller without my prompting it. However, it's a little accidental tap when scrolling that causes this. And I am sure this happens with lots of other people.

Here is what occurs...
1) I miss a call
2) I go to the missed call log to see who called
3) As I scroll through, I accidentally tap one of the missed calls
4) BOOM! I look at my iPhone and it shows that the missed caller is being called!
5) I hurriedly hang up, but it's too late.
6) embarassment ensues.

Don't lie. I know this has happened to lots of people. Yes, it is my fault that I accidentally tapped the missed caller, but on my old Android it would give me the time details of the call, NOT actually call the person. Then, Android at that point I could press the "call" button.

Well, that's just dumb. I used to have a Blackberry, and then Android. Bth of them, when you tap the person's name or number, a smaller dialog box comes up with the choice to "call" or "view details".

Apple has a great product. I like the usability better than Blackberry or Android. However, Apple is just plain stupid x 10 on this one. When a person taps to view the missed call number, they should be given the option to "call" or "view details". With one handed use, there are times when you can accidentally tap a number in your missed call log (and then it dials the number) when all you wanted to do was scroll down. Stupid iPhone.

That is what the little arrow is to the right of the name, it gives you the details.

I did a lot of research on this issue and have found the answer....its called "operator error".

when you touch the missed number the phone is set up to call that person. if you want details the phone is set up to show you details when you hit the blue arrow.

User error.
You can just press the little arrow on the right to view details, and I've used iPhones since 1st gen, and very few times, if ever (except when drunk) have I accidentally clicked something, when scrolling. Apple has very powerful algorithms to calculate what you're doing and prevent this.
I'd suggest reforming your scrolling technique.

I just found that their is a jailbreak tweak that allows a person to change this stupid setting of Apple. It's actually a very popular tweak, so I am not the only one who thinks Apple should've made this feature better.

Never heard of such complain before but here there seems to be complains about everything. Hey I accidentally click on icons on the homescreen and the app opens up. Damn it Apple should change that feature too, its terrible

But, but, but Mr. Know-it-all, it is POOR UI design to not have a dialog box appear that says "call" or "view details". Blackberry and Android has it. Apple has had it like this since probably the beginning, if not for quite a few iOS versions now, so it's not too likely it'll be changed to behave differently--short of a complete redesign of the phone/dialer/contacts app and/or iOS itself.

There are quite a few things in iOS that would really benefit from some small tweaks/changes or at least additional options so that people can set them up they way they might want to, but that's part of the nature of iOS--most things are set up they way they are and short of Apple deciding to change the design or suddenly add a particular option or feature (which happens, but not as often), the only other alternative could possibly be a jailbreak tweak.

I think part of the reason is a possible misunderstanding of the actual question/issue, seemingly in quite a few replies--it's not really about a way to get to the details of a call, but how easily (at least perhaps for some people) it is to accidentally dial a missed (or another) call while simply scrolling through the call list in the phone app.

If your jailbroken install "ask2call" it's free on Cydia. It will have you "slide-to-call" to confirm that indeed you want to call selected/highlighted contact/number. That's if you want to resolve this issue now of course.

What I do is scroll with my finger at the right side of the screen. That way if I accidentally tap it just goes to the info.

I had this problem (aka Butt dialing) and used to have the jailbreak tweak "AsktoCall". It'll ask and confirm before dialing. Was a great app to have!

I teach interface design and this feature is very poorly thought out. (For business people, its dangerous, and we've had numerous complaints from clients).

Contrary to some comments, it's totally logical that you discuss the issue with other users on a forum.

Sending feedback to Apple is also useful, but first things first.

Could somebody explain to me if there is a setting to change so that I, too, could get out from under the WEIGHT of this auto-dial feature?
If there's not a setting, but there's another method, could the process for achieving this change be explained so that I can follow along and make the change successfully as I wasn't born with one of these things in my hand. Thanks in advance!

Unlock your phone as you normally would (not using a missed call notification) and then go to the recents section in the phone app.

I agree that it's a bad design... and has been for years. I find myself accidentally tapping things all over iOS. Accidental calls, unknowingly tapping a notification banner instead of the top toolbar b/c the notification comes in mid-tap, etc.

I wouldn't hope for any immediate fixes.

No point in sliding open 'missed call' on locked screen

There is no point in sliding open a missed call on a locked screen if it doesn't give you the option to do other things beside automatically dialing the caller.

Is there a way to disable the feature of my phone showing me missed calls on a locked screen? This false convenience beckons one to open it. It's counterintuitive when compared with opening up a contact in the contact list and having all of those options to its one auto-dial option. Silly, really.
