How to Turn Off Notifications?

Don't recall there being a single switch for that in iOS 8 (or even 7)...there hasn't been one for a few iOS versions now. Closest you can do is basically use DND, disable notifications separately for different apps, or perhaps even airplane mode (although that will disable connectivity too).
It was called Notifications View, in iOS 8. If that was turned off then I wouldn't get any notifications. But now that option is gone in iOS 9.
Also before you could easily see which app had notifications off. But now you have to open each notification style to see if they are on or off.
Notification View? Was that a particular option under some section of settings somewhere (which affected all notifications)?
In iOS 8, settings, notifications….it was at the very top of that page. I used it all the time when I didn't want to be disturbed.
What the heck are you talking about? No such feature existed in iOS 8. Are you talking about Do Not Disturb?

Maybe he confused it with the turn off all notifications in 1 app at once instead of manually turning off sound, banners, etc.
I was talking about Notifications View, in Settings/Notifications Center. This would prevent any notifications from being shown on my iPhone. Now this feature is gone. I guess I could have used Do Not Disturb, but I didn't. Maybe that is what I have to use now.
I posted a screenshot of that option (from iOS 7) and it only applies to being able to access Notification Center in the lock screen and doesn't have any effect on notifications coming in or showing up. If you are taking about something else please post a screenshot of the actual option or exact steps and names of screens and options. What you described doesn't disable notifications from coming in.
In fact, what you describe--Notifications View and Settings > Notification Center--are not even iOS 8 options and screens but iOS 7 ones (in iOS the settings where reorganized somewhat and those don't appear like that anymore), so there's a disconnect even there with you saying you were using that in iOS 8 where it doesn't exist in the form you describe there.

All I know is I could turn off seeing notifications for all of my app, with one button swipe…in iOS 8 settings/notifications. Yes the notifications were there but it wouldn't tell me about them on my lock screen with this set.
Well, it would be great to know what you are referring to given that none of us have seen that option there or anywhere.

That disables Notification Center from being accessible from the lockscreen (as I also talked about in an easier post), but it doesn't disable notifications from coming in or appearing on the lockscreen or when unlocked (short of some of those options being disabled for each of the apps separately).
I'm missing that option too. Also doesn't help that both enabled and disabled notifications are now bundled together.
Do not disturb seems to be the only option at the moment unless Apple decides to bring it back.
I think this feature came in iOS 8.2 or 8.3 and it was never mentioned in any of Apple's release notes or covered by any blogs.
Again, iOS8…settings/notification center….the first button was notification view. This is what I was talking about.
Got it. It just doesn't do what you were explaining that it does. And that screen and option are also not present in iOS 8 (they are there in iOS 7 but not 8).
Funny I was looking at in my iOS 8 settings just before I upgraded to iOS 9. And numerous Google searches show pics that it was in iO 8.

That very link shows what it was on the left and what it is in iOS 8 on the right, and the very text relating to those screenshot talks about those settings being moved in iOS 8. I even have an iOS 8.4.1 device in hand that I re-checked just to make sure. So that supports what I've been saying that Settings > Notification Center isn't there, it's just Settings > Notifications, and options like Notification View are no longer on that screen. And even beyond that, that setting never disabled notifications anyway, simply allowed or disabled access to the Notification Center from he lockscreen.
Kind of my point, to my knowledge there was not a "disable notifications from all apps" lever there in iOS8.
in IOS 9, simply go to Settings.."Notifications", and read down where all your Apps appear. each one will tell you how they are set and you can set them to be off or howeverever else you wish for them to behave. There is no MAIN Switch for Notifications. Good Luck
