So you came from the Public Beta 10.11.1 and just installed the official Installer and Installed 10.11 over it and had all your personal files and stuff remaining on your device? That's what I wanted to hear, great!

So this basically means: You actually can downgrade!
Yes, also did the same. Was on 10.11.1 PB, just turned off the Beta-Releases. Restarted just to be sure, downloaded the full installer from the App Store and now i'm on 10.11 (15A284). Everything went fine.

Yes! All files and apps are still there. I started with a time machine backup but I was too restless to let it finish so I stopped the backup and started the installation/update. I got a notification saying that you already have this version installed but I just clicked ok and it did go well

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your bravery. Let's say, you are my heroes for today. I mean, that could've been quite risky, so once again: Thank you! <3

When i click on the icon that says El Capitan, I get the following message...

"Would you like to continue?

OS x v10.11.1 is already installed on this computer.
Use the Updates page to install the 10.11 update or if
you would like to download the full OS X installer click
Continue."

Since I have 10.11.1 beta, I don't understand my options. Guess I'll just have to wait since I don't want to screw up what I have right now. I'm only worried about the beta expiring.

Reading the posts above yours, you should be fine just downloading and installing. Your beta won't expire, you'll just continue to get beta releases (10.11.2 for example) as they come along as long as you haven't turned that off in App Store Settings.

Did anybody actually tried this to see if it might work like with iOS 9? If you had the Public Beta of iOS 9.1 installed, you could've downgrade via iTunes without loosing or whipping any data off your device.
Yes. I have tried once on iPad and iPhone. It does work.

Maybe: the case of downgrade doesn't include small version number downgrade.

Unfortunately, because of one of the first posts in this thread, I think I did turn automatic updates off. Still, I seem to be able to check for updates under "About this Mac" where there is a button to check for updates. So I'm thinking this will cover me for now.

As far as I can tell, from my admittedly limited experience, I don't think there's an expiry date on the betas. In fact, even though I too have opted out of receiving betas now OS X 10.11.1 beta 2 (and the GM candidate for 10.11) are still showing in my purchased history right now.

You should have no issues just installing over the top if the other posts are to be believed. Or just wait for 10.11.1. If it's like iOS 9.0.1 it'll be here in a week :D
