I'm assuming they will take on the numbering scheme from iOS. Big Sur will be 11.0, 11.0.1, 11.1, 11.1.5, etc. etc.
not sure they want version 30 or 40.
But what about iOS? that will be on 34 or 44. When iOS 10 came out i wondered if they would switch to 10.1, but they didn't.
Or they could just call it some thing different like windows that stop number counting.
I dunno... 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10?
Ahh yeah thats a good idea, especially when the updates are free!I think Bubble's referring to the "Windows as a Service" model, Windows 10 is the "last" Windows version released, all future releases are being built to upgrade 10. No 11, 12, 13, etc.
And yeah, I was talking about major number updates, not hotfix numbers. The next release of macOS will be 12, after that, 13, etc. just like iOS.
I suspect that one can follow the clean, fresh installation route for OS 11.x. That is what I plan on doing, at the appropriate time.no one knows until we get there; this is apple, they'll do what they plan to do. no harm of course, in speculation, but that's all we can do right now: speculate.
To me, it makes no difference what it is called. And as it is, I certainly will not be upgrading right away. Due to waiting for Tech Tool Pro to have a Big Sur update available, I suspect I will not be "upgrading" (actually a clean installation) until the 3rd update for Big Sur. But as Arnie says, No Problemo, as 1) a lot of the bugs with initial releases of Big Sur will be worked out by then, 2) I see nothing earth shattering in OS 11.x for me to have right away, and 3) Catalina runs fine. We'll have a pretty good idea after the first OS update. Whether it is 11.1 or 11.0.1. My guess is it'll be full version numbers on upgrades.
Here was your deleted post:deleted.
Here was your deleted post:
"good thing you told us! and makes sense that you're posting on the big sur forum, even tho you're not running it, nor planning to for some time... "
How can you be so narrow minded? I thought we are here to exchange ideas, thoughts, etc.? But maybe you don't subscribe to that. If that's the case, you are in the wrong place!
You are the one that made that narrow minded post, not me. And there is nothing wrong with the post I made above. I was disappointed, though, that I was responding to a post you made. Should have known you would be immature again, and just posted my reply, instead of quoting yours.your choice to not let it go. i felt bad about my post, and...felt sorry for you.
this is a thread about the upgrade naming convention apple will use with the OS, but you felt you had to talk about your needs unrelated to the topic at hand.
saddest still; that we're here discussing this at all. so will bow out of the thread, and hope you're mature enough to do the same.
I expect will switch to the ios numbering model now, the only reason they ever stuck to the 10 was the catchy name..
That sounds reasonable, and what I expect.I think it'll be like iOS, meaning next year we'll get 12. And maybe instead of the security updates that only change the build code, we'll actually get some 11.x.x version numbers like iOS too. Not sure though.
