Guess it happened with the exit of Johnny Ive, they are no longer the brand for "professional designers" but is now building kids toys for teenagers with wealthy parents.
I was thinking it was the interns. Bring them in for a summer and promise them a section that they can have for there 3 month stint. Big Sur is a reflection of that, with odd dialog boxes and inconsistent behavior across similar actions.

Rounded corners? Meh. Which one of these is not like the other ... lol.

I could see people who use multi-monitor setups, side by side if they’re borderless.

Personally though, I feel strongly indifferent :D I can’t say I pay much attention to the corners for the vast majority of the time. So, meh.
Well some ppl don't pay attention to if they are wearing pants or walk around butt naked, whats it' to me? 😅

I hate the rounded corners. I really really hate them. Why not give us a choice whether we want them or not. Anyone know how to get rid of them?

Obviously macOS Big Sur is going in the direction of rounding U.I elements off, which as they explained in a post-WWDC interview, was because they felt it made the experience appear more organic.

Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen rounded elements in a Mac OS. But what about screen corners?

It's be a long time since we've seen them, but I think it could be an interesting move on Apple's part.

They could retain the right-angle format of the corners on the LCD panel, but simply black-out the corners when you're not working with pixel-accurate content (i.e full-screen video editing).

So, how would you all feel about a move like this?

Design aside - for people who virtualize other OSes (Windows, Linux etc) on Macs - rounded screens would not be practical in full screen mode...

I’ve had a look around for a way to do just this, so far, drawn a blank.. shocker.

As it stands, I think the only option would be to offer up some constructive judgment upon Apple. Though I doubt it would do any good, as Apple have clearly decided the iOSifying of macOS is the way forward and that’s that. We can like it, lump it, or find a way to sodding hack it :D

Maybe I'm missing what you mean by screen, but virtualized full screen OS's aren't rounded, they appear just like normal.

I'm also of the strong indifference type on rounded screen elements...

I wrote to Apple just now telling them how I feel about their silly corner design and suggested a considerate design fix giving users the choice regarding corners. However Apple is anything but considerate so I'm not holding my breath.

A wise decision, I’m uncertain as to what colour would succeed blue in the face, but with Apple involved, I believe it would ultimately be whichever one is associated with asphyxiation :p

While obviously the display itself has right angles, I use a little app called Boring Old Menu Bar to give my Mac old-school rounded corners.

Reading this thread, I didn't realise displays in the past already had rounded corners lol. I grew up with plenty of them too. I'm not sure most people will even notice, I certainly won't after 5 minutes.

I realize I sounded unclear - sorry for that.

I meant that rounded screens would be disadvantage for people who run VM OSes..

No, thanks, I don't want archaic screen appearance which obscures pixels. 30+ years ago it was dictated by technology, not fancy.

I love rounded corners.

If you go to a demo area where they have the latest iPhones, iPad Pros and MacBooks on display side by side, the MacBook looks incredibly dated because of the large bezels and lack of rounded corners.

Even the recently introduced 16 inch MacBook Pro suffers from this and looks dated compared to the Liquid Retina iPad Pro.

“Suffers” from squared corners? What’s a functional benefit to rounded corners other than a thrill of something new to some, which by definition, will one day feel old…so one day square corners will feel thrillingly new. Are many consumers really that fickle as to be thrilled by the loss of usable screen area for the sake of something new-looking?

I guess rounded corners are the unfortunate roadkill result from the efforts of the torch & pitchfork-wielding anti-bezel marchers…as bezels get smaller, corners are edged out. Already looking forward to the day that Apple wows us with the return of sharp corners for “that professional look you’ve all been asking for.”

My paintings don't have rounder corners but thanks to Apple they now do.
What are you wittering about? The art board/canvas you paint on in every app still has squared corners. Your paintings are not remotely effected in the real world, other than if you choose to display them as your desktop background (in which case that’s an easy thing to stop being so upset about) or only view them in full screen on the screen you created them on (but again, your actual paintings are not affected).
