Agree. Pointless from Apple to remove and not replace it with something better. It still can be obtained by adding it up manually, but it was automatic before.
I think they added some better/additional statistics, which is great, but removing some basic ones that were there for years and can still be just as useful is definitely not a good thing.

Of course. I don't say that what they added is garbage; on the contrary, I like it. It's just that, as you said, I find no good reason for them to remove what was there before and it would have been perfectly logical for them to both introduce the new stats and maintain the ones that were there earlier.

That would only tell you screen time, not really actual usage as there is background usage that happens too. It also resets you screen time stats which can be something that people use on a non-per-charge basis. Not to mention that it's some other unnecessary thing that one would have to remeber to do each time that was being done simply and automatically for years before.

That's the best we can do. It's that, or counting the minutes manually

Good to talk to you again C DM! How is your battery life on iOS 12? Improved from iOS 11?

So far (with somewhat more of a hassle to track it) it seems like overall battery life is more or less the sam, maybe a tiny bit worse, based on a few days since updating. It was worse the first day or so, but I was using my phone more right after updating, and then it's been more or less the same. All that should take into account that my battery is at 83% of its capacity at this point and is almost 2 years old (got to go in for a discounted battery replacement sometime in the near future).

Sounds great. That's what I've been experiencing too. About the same battery life. I just turn off screen time and back on again at 100%. Even still, it's going to seem less because this only counts or pure screen on time. iOS 11's "Usage" counted whenever the phone was active. Even calls with the screen off. Strangely, calls don't go under "screen off time" on iOS 12.

I wonder how Radeon is doing. He does some pretty good tests.

I'd say you can check out https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-5s-ios-12gm-vs-11-4-1.2137290/, but it's hard to say if you'd really want to. ;)

Performance and battery life are way better than iOS 11 ever was on my iPhone X. This is despite my battery capacity coming down to 86% / 350 + cycles.

I think you can add it up manually. I did on a friend's 7 and adding up both on and off screen usage, it added up to 2 hours and 40 minutes of usage with 30% battery life left. The phone later died at 5PM after being unplugged at 7AM. Seemed low to me. I get at least 5-6 hours (maybe less if it's on LTE with higher brightness) on my 6s on iOS 9 with 30% left.

To know you have to manually add up time since you unplugged it. Awful change.

You can’t add it up manually. The screen on time is your last 24 hours. It doesn’t reset once your phone is charged.

iOS12 on my iPhone 7 has no perceptible change in battery life.

Any reports on Mini 4? I'm not sure if I should take the plunge just yet.

You sort of can if you look hour by hour since the last charge, but even that wouldn't be exact necessarily and essentially needlessly painstakingly cumbersome and boring almost.

Correct. This is what I do. You'll need a calculator though lol.

Air 2 has been running well all beta with battery life. 8 Plus isn’t liking iOS 12. Battery is about 20% less. And it’s impossible to know for sure because of the stupid change with battery stats.

Same here on my 8+. Agree totally with the new stats too. Beta 12 was the best for me.

One good reason - to Apple: this way you can't compare your battery life with iOS 11/10. Or at least, it's not that easy to do so.

So no one nows for sure if their battery life with iOS 12 is actually better, worse or the same. And less people will complain about it.

Solely based on battery life, I can't say, but my iPad Mini 4 was sluggish and slow under iOS 10 and 11, and it's taken a new life with iOS 12. Speedy, feels almost like a new device. (I also used iOS 12 on the iPad Mini during the betas, so it's not just recent data.) My personal recommendation? Try it, while iOS 11 is still being signed! :)

I'm getting worse battery life on my 7+ than before. The culprit seems to be standby mode; it drains faster over night than it did before.

Confounding why a very useful battery stat has been removed. Does anyone on the Apple IOS team have a clue about what stat info is useful to users? The dumbing down of IOS and OS continues. When will it stop???
Certainly questionable. That said, it's not quite dumbing down given that even more stats are now provided, just without the additional overall stat since last charge.

Yes, but it's the most important. Who cares about the rest if I don't know how much my phone is actually lasting?
