You think if a consumer has the choice between a product as is or a product that they'll have to solder the RAM themselves to make it useable, they'll choose the later? The vast majority of consumers probably don't know what RAM stands for, much less how find it and replace it.

Sounds like a sure fire guaranteed success.

Lol yeah but way back when, most computer upgrade parts was either hit or miss, and trial and error: Com ports, Dip switches, ISA busses, Jumper pins. Good riddance to those days mostly.

I don't think the battery is that big of a deal. My laptop only last 3 hours. The 10 hours on the iPad is awesome though. And thingd like netflix and hulu will work without an app, which a lot of people will like.

Seems like everyone is playing catch up again... same thing happened when the iPhone launched, everyone scrambling to offer some sort of touchscreen input...

Apples 10+hrs battery is easily 11+hrs for casual users. Lets see if 5+ hours on slate equates to 3+ or 6+.. i am guessing its going to be less than 5hrs.

I will take iPad anyways, if you want real OS(snow leopard), go with a macbook/pro/air, for most causal uses iPad is a better choice than this netbook err, slate

HP has never gotten their touchscreens right and doubt it's going to start now. Why would I want a full os on a tablet with some crappy UI overlay? It means you are going to load your own software that isn't meant for a touch screen. It's the same crap tablets have been for years. If people are wanting an alternative to the ipad then I would wait for an Android tablet.

And after you get your crappy tablet with a full desktop OS and a weak atom processor home, you won't have a damned bit of custom content for it. But you'll have USB ports. And you won't have 150,000 apps but you'll have nice buggy flash to help keep battery life to half that of an iPad. Sorry, no thanks!

Amen, good to hear people making sense. I had a thread on that particular topic pointing out how craptastic the slate is, but it seems I have offended macrumors sponsors and it's in the wasteland now:

That's why I love appleinsider, here it seems you can get all the "hey hp slate is the ipad killer, check it out" threads you want, but start speaking out vehemently against a competitor and you get censored.
