They say those 4GB RAM would be to take full advantage of the Tegra 64 and Android L 64 bit support.

I'm skeptical too, but it would make sense for Google to be the first one to completely support the transition to 64 bit.

Umm, what happened with your post?

Anyway I kind of agree. A lot of times it feels like your are just using a really big phone as opposed to tablet optimized stuff. But that was a whole ago. Maybe the situation has improved/ will improve.

Those are decent/good prices if the hardware rumors are true. :)

Actually I dont find these to be good prices as the android tablets would have to compete on price with the iPad.

As good as the hardware gets, the iPad app ecosystem just stomps and android tablet.

I disagree, it doesn't have to compete against the iPad as both run different OS'es and have separate ecosystems. I own both iOS and Android devices and I don't have a problem with either quality or quantity on the Google Play Store.

$200 more than the Nexus 7 I don't think Is very good. I can also do without the aluminum back which would of helped keep it down a bit.

It's still in line with the market. Samsung charges roughly the same for their gear and this looks way better on spec. So I have no issue with the price but that's just me I guess. :)

I don't replace my tablets often. (Still using a Nexus 7 1st gen). So, for those specs and a aluminum back, I'd be willing to pay a premium.

Very impressive sounding device, and if the tablet App situation improves for Android, I may have to consider it.

It's not even just the face that there are less tablet Apps for Android. Even the ones that do say they're "tablet-optimized" often are much lower res than equivalent iPad apps. Bloons TD5 and Plants v. Zombies 2 are examples of this. They are just optimized for retina-quality displays on iPad, but aren't on android. That's what made me move to Apple in the first place.

Still, I think those prices are quite weird for Google's current Nexus pricing lineup. I thought Nexus devices were meant to be premium-specced devices for low prices?

What I'd like more would be iPad-like battery life.

We need better battery life on Android tablets.

Is it 4:3? 4/3 = 1.33, while 2048/1440=1.42. This definitely isn't 4:3.

Good point. I wonder why they advertise it as 4:3. It is closer to 4:3 than 16:10 is.

Perhaps it works out to the same thing when you take into account the onscreen buttons will take up some vertical space in portrait?

PS.
From the linked article: "Additionally, 2048x1440 isn't a 4:3 aspect ratio, though it's possible that the 4:3 specification is accounting for the screen real estate lost to software nav buttons and a status bar."

I was going by what the article said. I didn't run the numbers. I have an 8.9 1st gen Kindle Fire HD and at 1600x1200 it looks real good on the web. So even if it's between 4:3 and 16:10 it should look as good or better.

Htc 9" nexus tablet

I was randomly looking up 4gb ram android tablets the other day for emulation purposes. I kind of upset to see that this article mention that this tablet had 2gb of ram. How do the older nexus tablets handle emulators?

Looking forward to this, even though I shouldn't buy a tablet, as I will only use it for a week then abandoned it. Smh.

Might as well wake up this old thread as well to celebrate the (hopefully true) good news...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jaymcgr...nd-will-be-the-first-device-to-run-android-l/

Volantis will be available for pre-order on the 17th October and available to purchase on the 3rd November. Although there’s no information on when Android L will be available for other Android devices, and the pre-order and purchasing dates are subject to last minute change.

:)

The 16GB version will cost $399 and the 32GB LTE version will retail for $499. Both devices will have expandable memory.

:eek::eek::eek::):):)

Most of what has been rumoured is accurate, according to my source. The tablet will will have an 8.9-inch 2048×1440 display, weigh 480 grams, have a 64-bit dual-core processor, an Nvidia Kepler GPU and a 8MP rear-facing camera and 3MP front-facing camera. HTC and Google have also opted for a “brushed aluminum” frame – instead of an all metal design – to keep costs down.

Some of HTC’s popular features on its own devices has travelled over to the Google tablet including HTC’s boomsound and the dual front facing speakers, both of which featured on the One M8 and Desire EYE.
