HTC M8 or wait for iPhone 6

I've been an iPhone user since the beginning...and although I've left it for several torrid affairs with some BlackBerry devices...I've always come back to the fluid, polished, effective user friendliness that defines iPhone & iOS.

But, I must admit that I am getting bored with the iPhone & iOS as a whole. There have few changes, and iOS7 has been nothing worth talking about...

I am thinking seriously about trying out the HTC One M8 just for a while...at least until the iPhone 6 drops to Verizon wireless.

My issue is that the last time I tried Android it made me feel stupid! Not nearly as intuitive as iPhone and I felt I had to be some tech head to navigate mysel around the phone. The M8 is all aluminum though...seems put together well, and good things are being said about KitKat the OS.

Could I get some experienced help on why I should forget the iPhone and go with the HTC M8...or if I should wait on the iP6.

I use all apple products and so do most of my friends and family. The m8 is very tall, and you can't write to the sd card without tweaking it which is a huge turn off for me. If I can put an sd card into it why can't I write.

It's an awesome phone. I have to have an android for work and that's the only one I want other than a g3, but loving the m8 because of its metal design. But it's usually in my pocket while I use the 5s.

I'm not. I have no set allegiance. I have an iPad simply because my alternative is Android, and the Apple product and the OS is familiar. But there's no MacBook in my home. I use a PC simply because of familiarity.

So, I'm looking for a comparison based on effectiveness of both devices for a very average Joe like me. I'm not a techno-nerd, and don't have time to spend hours relearning a difficult and new OS. Honestly, I'm a bit intimidated by that. I tried the new BlackBerry OS & got a stress headache figuring it out! How does the KitKat version of Android on the M8 compare to iOS? How user friendly is the M8?

I guess I'm trying to get some here to talk me into or out of spending money on an M8...or giving me reasons to hang for a few months until mother Apple drops her latest offering. Will the 6 be nothing but a 5/5s with a big screen? Will things I hate about iOS7 (the stupid calendar!!!!) be changed?

Saying you are not a fanboy doesn't make it so. you may not be an iphone fanboy, but you are an apple fanboy.

Having said that, if the bbos gave you a headache, i would stay away from android as it is likely to give you the same headache.

See what I put in bold? That's why you should stick with iOS. Android devices if you don't keep an eye on them, basically at all times will start to get clunky and do dumb things that they aren't supposed to. I wouldn't consider myself an Apple fanboy but....well, actually yes, I guess I am an Apple fanboy.

I'd rather be called a fanboy than deal with a clunky OS anyday though.

In all seriousness though, the M8 is probably the best or at least 2nd best Android phone out there. G3 seems to be the new king. Samsung used to rock, but now their phones are super annoying.

The M8 is a fantastic device. As far as companies putting their own skin over Android, HTC Sense is probably the best compared to what Samsung and LG put on their phones.

I recently switched from the M8 to the 5s and will purchase the 6 when it's released, just because I wanted a change and I really enjoy how intuitive iOS is.

With that said, Android has come a long way and I see a lot of inaccurate arguments against Android in this forum. Both Android (assuming it's a high end device) and iOS are amazing and decisions should be based on personal preference.

Thanks, guys. I'm leaning toward just cooling my jets for now and sticking with my iP5 until the iPhone 6 comes down the pike. iOS just plain "works" and I'm comfortable with it. I really don't want to relearn an all new platform right now, and I've got enough stressors on my plate at the moment. The last thing I need is to have my new mobile be another one.

Maybe with the new form factor, bigger screen & (hopefully) faster processor...the iPhone 6 will satisfy my mobile phone ADHD for a while.

HTC One (m8) is incredible device. I absolutely love it in almost every aspect.

Still I miss iPhone and it's polished experience. Will most likely keep my HTC One till iPhone 7 is released and switch back to iOS. I might even switch back as early as next fall when iPhone 6S will be out.

Nothing wrong with the HTC, fantastic device with great software. I just feel more comfortable with iOS devices compared to Android.

My girlfriend has the M8 and I secretly love it.
It's so fast, so well built and the speakers are incredible - better than any laptop I've owned over the years. If you're comfortable with iOS and own a lot of paid for apps, it's big change though. Having said that, I see no reason why people should feel that Apple have them by the short and curlies. If you fancy a change then go for it! There's absolutely nothing wrong with the M8.

I'm going to wait. The release of the six isn't far off and if you wait and don't like it the M8 will still be a great phone. And will still be available.

If you do like it. It saves you cash in the long run.

If it helps, I went to the HTC One M8 from an iPhone and ended up coming back after using it for 2 months. The phone was nice, especially the speakers, but in the end I loved how iOS and Mac OS X synced with one another. If you have Mac and Apple TV it's best to have an iPhone in my opinion. The level of integration can't be beat and your guaranteed that everything will work senselessly for the most part. Sure Android is awesome when it comes to customizing and setting up things just the way you want it to look and work, but for me ecosystem continuity ended up being more important. I hope that helps you make some peace with your decision haha.

It's not that apple has anybody by the short and curlies, the question becomes can one hold out until the iPhone 6 is released?

Swapping phones is a very big deal for me due to the amount of business apps I have. Even if I could swap easily I would have to "hate" iOS and my 5s to move over to android.

I was in same boat few weeks back and bought S5 because of ip67, loved the phone, look and feel but hated touchwiz.

Bought M8, miles ahead than S5 and very fast, used it for 2 weeks and it is a beautiful phone but scratch so easily, I baby my phone and have 5s since launch day and don't even have single scratch, on M 8 managed to scratch screen, back and camera lens. Build quality seems great but doesn't hold very well.

Back to my 5s , iphone just work, build quality great, ecosystem, Touch ID.

Nothing wrong with M8 but you will get annoyed in few days without any lock screen notification, slidelocker works great but battery drainer, annoying to unlock phone with 2 hands while iphone is ready to use as soon as you take out of pocket.

I am sticking with iPhone 5s, in my opinion nothing beats ios experience.

Unlock the M8 with two hands? Why?
My girlfriend manages to unlock hers with one hand and since her birthday, when I bought her the official HTC flip case, the phone is on as soon as she opens the case. Admittedly she has turned off the lock to enable this feature tho'

You should get a 5C. It's colorful and familiar, not like that cold, aluminum M8. If your boredom outweighs your intimidation, then I say try the M8. It looks like a solid phone and you get to play with some widgets.

If ever there was a time to drop iOS because you're bored with it, 2-3 months before one of its biggest updates to date (ditto to the hardware) might not be it.

With that said, why not test something else if you feel like it? It's not like you're making a huge, permanent life choice here.

Meh, far too much importance is given to Touch ID. It's like any phone that doesn't have it is automatically crap. I can unlock a non-Touch ID phone in no time at all and we all managed well enough before the 5S came out. I didn't hear anyone moan about how long it took to unlock their phones.

We all managed just fine with horse and buggies also. Touch ID is one of those things that in this modern internet connected world-wide society helps improve the security of the device. Sure you don't need it. You don't need a lot of things in your life that makes living life easier.

So many things which wouldn't be dealbreakers to me are absolutely dealbreakers to others when it comes to swapping iOS for Android.
Touch ID and iMessage soooo wouldn't stop me jumping ship. I would say that better battery life and a removable battery trump both those iPhone features hands down. There are pros and cons to both platforms and if you're 'entrenched' in one then the cons of the other become amplified. I think it's important not to get too overawed by the platform change though.

I will say this. When I went from the 5s to the M8, Touch ID was one of the items I missed the most. Then again, now that I'm back on the 5s, I miss the swipe keyboard. Glad I'll have that option again in ios8.

See, and to me battery life and a removable battery are soooo far down on the list. I already have them covered.

Actually the biggest dealbreaker is android...I would go back to blackberry first.

I have had a 5S and now have a G2. The Android on the G2 is really not bad. They didn't layer it too much with their skin. Having a 3000maH battery is very nice along with a 1080p 5.2 inch screen in a minimum bezel form. Having said all that, if I like what Apple does with the Ip6, I would go back.

2 hands to unlock the m8? WRONG.

Scratches easily? WRONG. I dont use a case and throw it around drop it on counters that are filled with dust,metal at work and I dont have any scratches. Maybe one small one.

Anyways, they are both sweet phones and I switch back from android to ios every other phone I buy. The M8 is sick! But if youre getting a 6 anyways there is no reason to buy a M8 for a few months....
