I left the iPhone4 for the Galaxy S4 and it has been a good change for me. I am able to do so much more as well as be more efficient on the S4 than I ever was on the iphone. But when I take a break from my busy life it's nice to have that 5" screen to read a few blogs or browse the web. It is a game changer in my opinion for ME personally. The only thing that has me upset is that when I got my phone it already had Verizon's update on it that locked down the bootloader. That doesn't sit well with me because I was really looking forward to trying out different ROM's. Oh well, you can't have it all right?

Yes, a UK saying. Glad you like it. :):)

In wooden ships, the “devil” was the longest seam of the ship. It ran from the bow to the stern. When at sea and the devil had to be caulked, the sailor sat in a bo’sun’s chair to do so. He was suspended between the devil and the sea - - the “deep” - - a very precarious position, especially when the ship was underway.

According to the "International Maritime Dictionary" by René de Kerchove, the devil is 1. The seam in a wooden deck which bounds the waterway. It is so-called from its difficulty of access in calking. 2. A seam in the planking of a wooden ship on or below the waterline.

If sailors fell from a footrope under a yardarm, they would either land on the deck (within the devil plank) or in the water (outside of the devil plank). Either option is likely fatal.

However, this nautical definition is unlikely. This is because the first recorded citation of 'the Devil and the deep sea' in print is in Robert Monro's His expedition with the worthy Scots regiment called Mac-keyes, 1637: "I, with my partie, did lie on our poste, as betwixt the devill and the deep sea."

Because the nautical use of the word "devil" as mentioned above cannot be confirmed until more than two centuries later, the nautical origin seems improbable.

Sigh. So all of a sudden tonight my 1 month old HTC One has started having backlight bleed I think. The top 1/4 of the screen is much brighter than the rest of the screen which is really annoying.

Sigh, getting a bit fed up. I know any device can have hardware issues but after having iPhones since the original on day 1 I have never had a single hardware issue with them, but my HTC One has this and the crap camera focus issue so I'm a bit bummed.

EDIT - seems the backlight has settled down a bit now. It just seems to be across the top of the screen now after a reboot but strangly it seems to disappear if I go into an app like now I am using tapatalk and it looks OK, but never noticed the light diff earlier. Oh well. I've emailed the store I brought it from to ask about swapping it for another just in case as I really can't believe the camera would be this bad if it's working perfectly. I have no idea how the demo shots people post are being taken with this phone.

Had my HTC One for about 3 months now and although its a great phone, I think I'm going to go back to iOS. Not huge reasons for it, just that after spending a day with the wifes iPhone5 yesterday instead of my One it was the little things thats made the difference to me.

iMessage is one. All of my friends and family bar 1 have iPhones so everyone uses iMessage. I got a fair chunk of them to use WhatsApp so they could still IM me, but I get far less messages from them now than i did before. Esp with my folks living back in the UK and me in New Zealand, they forget to use WhatsApp so don't send me half as many whereas they still iMessage my wife a fair bit. And also get no video chats anymore as they can't seem to get Skype working, whereas before we would FaceTime no trouble.

Size. I wanted the bigger screen coming from an iPhone4 and although I love the HTC One screen, there are times when its too big. I like to use the phone one handed when I'm walking thru the city, can't really do this with the One.

Lack of physical home button. This didn't even register on me until a few months after using the One, but so used to pulling my old iPhone out my pocket, spin with one hand, unlock, reply to message/change track etc, put back. Now its a multiple step, multi hand to do anything like this. Sounds silly I know but its something I notice.

Camera. This is the number 1 reason for me ditching the iPhone 4 for the HTC One and now will be a big reason to go back. Its just too hit and miss for me. Indoor or outdoor I can't be sure of getting a decent shot with the One, a large percentage are out of focus still and it tends to hunt for focus a lot when trying to take pics of my little girl running round. My wife's iPhone5, none of these issues, snaps a great shot 9/10 times. Don't get me a wrong, the One camera is good, esp in low light, but for a quick snap its not reliable enough for me.

Battery - I'll miss this about the one. Superb!

Android - Now this was my first Android phone after years with iOS and I really like it. Only things that have been a bummer is that the app consistency isn't there like it was on iOS, something I never thought about with iOS. And I have a large amount of app crashes on the One which I don't remember experiencing before. Not a huge issue but have noticed it. But I really did like the freedom it gave you, especially in changing the default apps etc.

Overall though I think the One is still a brilliant device and Android is certainly a great OS. But for me especially with all my friends/family on iMessage and not willing to move to WhatsApp and also the poorish camera I'll be back to iOS when the 5S comes out here, or may just pickup a second hand 5. Gave it a good try and would certainly recommend the One and Android to anyone.
