HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone (Yes, an HTC One Windows Phone!)

Looks like this is confirmed with an August or Septemeber launch, but thus far only confirmed on Verizon. I swear if Microsoft was stupid enough to make this a Verizon exclusive, then the people making these decisions at Microsoft should be shot!

Engadget reports that they phone should launch by on "Verizon during the third quarter, or no later than the end of September" although our sources tell us that Microsoft Stores have a planning date of August 20 with a launch on the 21st. The off-contract, full price of the phone is listed at $610 with on-contract price most likely nearing $199. The name is also confirmed as"One (M8) for Windows" according to documents we have seen.

I saw that earlier today. I have no doubt HTC will make a great Windows phone. Riddle me this batman.....why is there no Windows phone with a notification light?

Because WP uses a glance feature similar to the Moto X. No real need for a notification light I guess.

Too bad they have to make it another exclusive. Another lost sale from me, just like the butchered ATT 1520. Why does Microsoft have such a hard time with making sure all their phones are on all the networks?

No idea why this is such a hard thing for them to comprehend. Exclusivity = Lost Sales

I probably would have bought both and just passed on my 920 to the rest of the family.

Like you guys I continue to be baffled by these carrier exclusives. How hard is it to have the same phone on all carriers? It's like they alternate giving nice phones to AT&T and Verizon.

I agree with the 930 comment and if it was on ATT I'd probably have one.

I dont understand their philosophy behind that especially trying to market their OS with Android and Apple and trying to play catch up.

Seems they would want their operating system on any provider out there.

Yeeeah, but I don't want to use the battery life nor wear out the screen.

IMO all phones should just have a notification light for texts/missed calls/voicemail.

I don't have glance on on my Nokia 928.

It's because the carrier CEOs are stuck in the 1990's mindset that people will choose the carrier based on the phones it sells, not on the quality, coverage and customer support of their network.


Perhaps the AT&T/iPhone original exclusivity in 2007 helped perpetuate the mindset and they're still trying to regain that. Like the Nokia Icon is going to make someone switch to Verizon...


The original iphone was different altogether since it was the first of a class. It'll be a long time until there's another market disruption like that.

Its not that they have a hard time... carriers pay A LOT to be the only one to offer the phone. Its a dumb game, but thats how they roll.

Trust me, there are full teams (marketing, analytics, business) making these decisions, they don't care about a few lost customers.

That's a terrific looking phone. I think I need to start putting some money aside to possibly get it.

agreed...that is a good looking phone!

Here is a thought.....since the hardware is the same for the HTC Android and Windows Phone.....why can't both OSes be flashed on the same phone?
I wonder if it could be done to dual boot both Android and WP8 on the same HTC M8?

Only way of knowing is waiting till release and see if some canny folks at XDA can find out. I imagine boot loaders however would be different.

Problem is that even a few customers makes a difference when your market share is so low. Just pop on over the forums at WPcentral. There are many threads full people wondering how serious Microsoft is about WP. That's not a good thing.

Its hard to defend the decisions of these so called expert teams too. Why cut the memory from 32gb to 16gb? Why remove the Qi charging and then not even have any PMA charging accessories ready at the beginning?

I used to be a huge advocate for Windows Phone. I got about 4-5 people on the platform. I'm the only one left, and I am just waiting for the iPhone 6 to be released to go back. It's a nice OS and has lots of potential, but for me its just not there yet.

One rumor on WPCentral indicated the bootloader was unlocked and that Android could be loaded as well. They key word being 'could'.
We will know by next week.

I've always been a fan of the HTC One even though I have never owned a phone in that lineup.

I am a new WP adoptee and I love the OS with the 8.1 updates and recently purchased a 1520 after using a 635 at first. What a great phone and the OS is just so fast for the functions I need it for the most (work email, videos,etc).

That would be revolutionary for mobile devices. I would say it is actually in the realm of possibility due to how much power htc gives users.

My next device will be htc if they pull that off.

It's about damn time these devices get treated like computers.

Only other mobile device with dual boot I believe is the hp touchpad which could boot into webos or CM. And this would be official os support!

Obviously the x86 windows stuff can boot whatever they want, but this would be a great leap for arm.

Agreed. It is pretty much the only thing I don't like on my M7.
