That would be revolutionary for mobile devices. I would say it is actually in the realm of possibility due to how much power htc gives users.

My next device will be htc if they pull that off.

It's about damn time these devices get treated like computers.

Only other mobile device with dual boot I believe is the hp touchpad which could boot into webos or CM. And this would be official os support!

Obviously the x86 windows stuff can boot whatever they want, but this would be a great leap for arm.
I know huh? Now that it is legal to unlock a phone....the next step is unlocking the hardware enough to support more than one OS.
I would love love love to have the option of Android or WP8 on my M8.....

----------

Agreed. It is pretty much the only thing I don't like on my M7.

Agreed......why oh why HTC...you almost had it......

HTC Butterfly 2 might have solved that camera issue. Ditching the UltraPixel for a 13MP snapper.

The HTC Butterfly S might have been a better phone than the One M7 last year. It had a CPU clocked a 1.9GHz, 3200 mAh battery, and micro-sd slot. This Butterfly 2 only has a 2700 mAh (100 more than the M8) but specs are similar to M8. But the big sell is water-resistance.

Unfortunately for Western markers (although not unfortunate for me), its availability may never leave outside of Asia just like its predecessor. I would sell my M7 for a Butterfly 2 just to correct the battery, overheating, and camera issues. Even at power saving mode (underclocked to 1.1 GHz, 20k AnTutu) and my M7's battery is still only half vs Xiaomi Mi 3 on balanced mode (no CPU throttling, 30k AnTuTu). The key is the Snapdragon 800/801 are able to clown down to 300 MHz when not in use. Power saving on M7 is set at 1.134 GHz for each four cores. Also 2300 mAh is just not enough for 1080p and less efficient SoC like the SD600. At least the battery life, overheating, and purple photos is not quite evident on the M8. But the Butterfly 2 might even be the better of the two.

Thats one nice looking phone as I am a new WP adoptee and absolutely loving the efficiency and simplicity of the OS.

Its the fastest OS on a phone Ive ever used.

Thank god the Verizon exclusivity is time limited.

AT&T just confirmed they will also get the One. And it also appears we will be able to dual boot (rooted devices only of course with unlocked bootloader) between Android and Windows.

I also like the addition of an SD card slot, since on WP you can actually use the SD card to load apps onto it. This is quite literally the perfect WP (save for the camera).

Meaning I could essentially serve both my WP8.1 and Android curiosities with my favorite non-iPhone hardware!?!?

Oh....my....:D

Time to start saving for an unlocked dev edition!

Question though - which version would one buy if one wanted to dual boot? The Android version or the WP8.1 version?

I finally got to stop by a store and play with this phone. It's very beautiful. I'm considering getting it, but I'm not sure that I'm ready to give up chromecast support and a few other things, since this would be my primary phone. It's very tempting, so I'm not sure what I'll do.

Just looked weird when I saw it yesterday with the device having Windows on it me being accustomed to playing with one several times with android.

I have the Lumia 635 and I will not go farther unless another Windows device comes out dirt cheap with a larger screen.

It's a shame that this, like most Windows phones, is not available in Canada, nor does it have the bands to.

Anyone have any updates on the dual-booting aspect? Very curious about this....I'd love to pick up an M8 especially if I can dual boot WP and Android.

EDIT: Lol, damnit....does everyone here have me on ignore? I'm really interested in this ya'll!

Wow! Dual boot! Perhaps someone in Microsoft's consumer division has finally pulled their head out of their rear end.

I wish HTC got the credit they deserve for the incredible hardware that they make.

There is a good write up on AnandTech about the WP8 HTC One....

It mentions the possibility of a dual boot scenario...

For some users the most exciting prospect of the HTC One (M8) for Windows may come from the fact that it shares the same hardware as the One (M8). It's possible that the developer community will be able to load the firmware from the HTC One (M8) onto the device in a dual boot configuration with Windows Phone 8 so users can switch between the operating systems as they please.

Overall, this seems to be a smart move for HTC. Instead of assuming additional risk in the form of new hardware, the only resources needed are for software development. There's no need for a new production line, hardware certification is easier because the hardware should be unchanged from other variants, and cost across the board is driven down due to increased economies of scale.

Looks nice, but I don't see the advantage of having a dual boot system. Having two operating systems and two every app on the phone would very quickly eat up the storage capacity.

Yeah I don't either. Eats up to much space. Now if you can have a micro SD card and one system can run on that then fine but I don't know if it can. If the Sim cards are the same size then I'd just rather switch phones when I want to use another OS . Dual boot to me is just a geeks dream, lol.

Hec I don't even have a wireless charger for my Nexus 5. Some of these features i just don't don't get excited about.
