HTC One Max, wow now that's a bezel

Sick looking phablet coming from HTC, at least in China but I'm sure it will make it's way over here. The one thing I note is that now THAT is a bezel, it's virtually no bezel on the sides, and very small ones top and bottom mainly for the dual speakers, which is another incredible feature. Top that with the aluminum build. The only thing I am bummed about is no stylus.

I hope they move onto on-screen keys next year. And for goodness' sakes, I hope they get the home button location right next time around.

I find it hard to believe that HTC made a firmware promise to the one group of people that care about getting updates and can't keep it. I'm not doubting you, I'm questioning a marketing strategy of a developer phone that doesn't get updates quickly. Developers are the only group that would really care about firmware versions.

Looks pretty slick. I think HTC design language is really on point since last year.

Sadly I think a string of piss poor updates, abandoning products, and spending 2 years recycling the HTC Evo a million times Evo has really hurt them.

Though, the One and One X are probably the best looking android products two years in a row.

that's a great device, but i dont think it'd receive much success (because of the note 3), is there any information about any stylus wit the phone, i'd love to see a stylus in the one max. they can affect note 3's sales if they bring out a stylus with it.

The screen doesn't start where the black glass meets the edge. The screen is actually further in. Still a beautiful device. If it weren't for HTC, I'd consider it if it were available.

Looks pretty nice to me. The speakers on my One are head and shoulders better than the speakers on any other smart phone out there.

As for the lack of updates that onthecouchagain is constantly complaining about, it doesn't bother me. I knew going in that Android updates can be spotty at best. The phone does what I need it to do, and a lack of updates won't change that. YMMV.

It will bother you when everyone else is running on KLP, whereas HTC owners are stuck in the past with their JB phones.

HTC made the promises. Not me. Also, I'm on a dev edition that's unlocked from carriers. There are no excuses, especially if you're already behind (which was understandable and forgivable).

Granted, I agree it's not that big of a deal as 4.1 is very usable. But you can't forget context. HTC is a company on a brink of either failure or come back. They can ill afford broken promises, especially to their flagship device in the US.

And this is only talking about 4.2.2. Never mind 4.3...!

If my phone continues to do what I need it to do, no it won't bother me a bit. It didn't bother me when the iPhone 4 didn't get Siri. My phone still worked and did everything that I needed/wanted it to do.

Personally, I really don't get all of the gnashing of teeth and wailing over not always having the latest update to an OS on your phone. But, if it is important to you then it's important to you. Everyone needs to make up their own mind about what is and what is not needed.

So, what exact promises did HTC make concerning the developer edition of the One? Did they promise it by a specific date or are you just mad it is taking so long?

Updates are cool and everything but i dont expect more than what i get when i pay for something, in this case a phone.

I know that whe all enthusiastic and it can get pretty frustrating when our phones dont have that new number next to version

Yes, like the existing Chinese One except of course it does mean the whole thing is not cut from a single piece like the western one.

Do you think that including that universally would entitle HTC to more sales? Since there are folks out there who would like to have a removable battery and expandable memory.

That would solve all storage woes on such devices.

The Chinese One doesn't actually have removable battery though either.

I think it's a mix of opinion. There are those that simply don't care about removable battery as proven by the millions of iPhone users, and those that do. I've often found from personal experience, some folks who want removable battery - actually never replace or use additional batteries - they just like the 'idea' of being able to do so.

For me personally I'm happy as long as whatever device I use lasts a day - other than that I don't care if it has removable battery or not.

But yeah an argument could be made that 'having' a removable battery regardless of whether the consumer ever avails of the use of it - at least acts as a cushioner for those that do worry about those things, and may be put off buying something because of the lack of it......

Regarding updates, the One will get KLP thanks to the Google Edition model right? It will be a port of course.

HTC should also release the update to the stock model considering its an update within a year from the release of the phone.

The "back" and "home" capacitive buttons of the One light up in the dark.

I know. They must've known the HTC logo is a workable button (duh -- they designed the phone). Then in their discussions, they somehow got convinced to not use it, to shift the home button unconventionally to the right (hello Android devices from 2009!), to lose the App switcher button, and to just let the HTC logo do nothing.

"Baffling" is putting it lightly. It's plain dumb, and they'll never live it down.
