Huawei Mate 10 Pro 799....iPhone X 999....Samsung Note 8 ...not sure, was it 899.....so, if that's a fact, why not allow Huewei to compete in USA.....after all, these are all flag ship models, right?....let the best one win.....:)

I'm not sure what to think about this. On one hand, I immediately think that I need to steer clear from them. Then on the other hand, they give ZERO empirical evidence that any wrongdoing has occurred. So I don't know.
I agree...part of me wants to steer clear of Huawei because of the security agencies recommendation. But they are a little short on evidence. But maybe they can't share how they know what they know?

Weren't US agencies caught spying even on ther own allies (Merkel for example)?
Funny how all of a sudden US agencies are so concerned about privacy of their own citizens. And of course, allegations vs Huawei without a single proof.

Free market is great. Until it isn't. But US meddling into other countries affairs is great. Huawei is bad. China is bad. Russia is the devil. Spy on allies.

Forgive me for this rant, but I find hypocrisy in US politics to be quite annoying :)

We can’t get too political on this topic or we will likely get moved over to PRSI so I’m just going to steer my question onto the hardware side of the NSA warning— has anyone come across any article that spells out what this threat is? Is there something about the hardware itself. A software or firmware backdoor? It’s so weird that it’s just some Chinese manufacturers they’re blacklisting and not others with more English sounding names or western origins.

What makes China telecom Huawei so scary?

http://fortune.com/2011/07/28/what-makes-china-telecom-huawei-so-scary/
Particularly vexing for Huawei is the suggestion that the company could be used to spy on behalf of the government in Beijing. Unverified assertions that the company is “linked” to the Chinese military appear regularly in news articles. The charges are largely based on the fact that Huawei’s media-shy founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, once served in the People’s Liberation Army as a telecom technician, and that the company (like AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon in the U.S.) is a military and government contractor in its home country.

So Huawei could be used to spy? Unverified assertions links them to someone?

Okay well I’m connected to some very important peeps in a “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” kind of way, but I myself am the pasture dung you scrape off your boots when it comes to having any significance to the world whatsoever, and that’s reflected in the contents of my phones and computers. So...I’m free to choose! Yay me. :p

Okay, this CIA/FBI stuff really grinds my gears.

And I'm saying this not just as a huge HUGE fan (and owner) of the mate 10 Pro, but as a realist.

Tons of phones are built and shipped from China, firstly.

Secondly, I become a bit peeved, because this is some fear mongering and Josef Goebbels-level trolling.

I was actually on the bus yesterday reading some Droidlife/Verge propaganda and momentarily had second-thoughts about the best phone i've ever used.

I think it'd be a better idea, though, to second-guess Droidlife/Verge.

ESPECIALLY The Verge.

Do not worry as long as they don't knock at your door at midnight and put you behind bar. That is okay. Else sue the hell out of them. I am sure there will be tonnes of lawyers willing to fight your case. Some Uncle Sam men got paid by the rival phone companies to get Huawei out of competition. While the rest of the world are using Huawei without hesitation.

I saw one on display at BB. I am not playing $799 for it or even close to that.

And where is Oreo update for Mate 9?

These are my thoughts too. While Huawei makes some great phones. It's the control the Chinese government has that gives me pause.
"Unofficially, everyone thinks the Chinese government is in control of Huawei. While I'm not an expert on foreign affairs or the history of the Chinese Communist Party, I am smart enough to know that the Chinese state surely does have a financial interest in one of the biggest companies inside its border. The chance that the state has a controlling interest in Huawei doesn't surprise me, either. There has been no evidence offered, and not surprisingly there isn't much on the public record to clear things up, so we have to assume that it could be true"

or maybe if it walks like a duck...quacks like a duck.....has feathers like a duck.....maybe it is a duck?

Even though in most countries you are innocent until proven guilty...you can still be incarcerated until your innocence is proven. :D

Then what you quoted......I did not say...it was from the article I linked...so you quoted the author from Android Central Jerry Hildenbrand

What country has been proved to be spying, even on their own allies?! Russia? China? Nigeria? Or was it USA?

So going by your own logic, if Japan, EU, China, India, etc. ban all US manufactures, from Apple, Motorola to Google... Well, it would make more sense then giving ban to China products, since US has been caught spying, lying and deceiving. China (still) hasn't.

So if everyone would play by the way US plays, I don't think EU would have any smartphones to buy these days. Since we don't make any anymore.

And to be honest, I don't trust China also. But I trust USA even less then China. US has been caught with their hands in the jar multiple times, China hasn't. So until proven otherwise, USA is the one that should be feared, not China. Even by their own citizens, since your own agencies spy on you just like they spy on germans, japan, etc.

I was using YOUR logic.....you are free not to buy anything American. Choice is awesome!

Then I in no way endorsed any spying.....I am not naive enough to think my government is not guilty of spying.....but then I am more cautious of foreign countries like Russia and China than my own government.

So you can cast stones if you want...makes no difference to me. I am proud to be American. I am not afraid to show my country in my profile here.
For some reason you want to make this personal....let's stick to the thread topic.
