Wow, Huawei went all out. And they are also announcing everything to match what Apple did and might do, including Huawei Sound (to compete with HomePod), the Free buds Pro and Studio (such apt naming :D), even Huawei Eyewear II.... :D It's like they did anything that Apple is rumored to do.

As for the Mate 40 phones, they seem to have awesome features. As an ex Huawei (Honor) user, I can say that Huawei really makes great phones with great quality. They really give Samsung a run for their money. And they keep showing it here. But, as we all know, the lack of GMS is simply a dealbreaker.

Hopefully we can see Huawei back (the sale of their Honor brand might be a workaround). Samsung is great, but they got to this point because of competition.

As someone who owned a Huawei Mate SE and I currently own an Honor 9X, I can truly say that Huawei makes great phones with solid quality.

The mate 40 pro plus and iphone pro max will be my next phones in the coming months. But probably I would not keep any of them until the return period... Waiting to see the next year lg v70... Defenetly I'll stick with a new phone, probably in March or April 2021. Mate 40 pro FTW. Headphone jack and ess Sabre or any other 24 bit hi res audio is a major go for me and also needs to be present in a flagship... Did you hear Apple, Samsung and Huawei?

The only Huawei-made phone I ever owned was the Nexus 6P, and that ended in bootlooping, but this looks incredible. Two of the features that really grabbed me were the smart rotate by looking at your face and the eyes-on-display. Those are the kind of features I'd expect from Apple, and I'm impressed to see Huawei getting into user experience optimisations like that.

That was then, this is now.

It's a beast

This phone will definitely go down as the best phone nobody outside China should buy.
Hopefully some of the creature comfort and camera features will be copied by the likes of Samsung or Oppo.

Again, truly the best phone anybody outside China won't buy....
It's amazing the kind of things Huawei has done. Well, except the overly curved screen. :D

But Biden can simply reverse the ban, and allow Huawei to do business again, no? Maybe the P50/Mate 50 will see the return of GMS.
While it might have been Trump who ultimately pushed for the ban, there's a lot of suspicion around the world regarding Huawei and the Chinese government. None more so than in the US. So if people think it's going to be liking flipping a switch, think again.

Also, Huawei have been making efforts to expand their own apps & services. So do they even want Google services back on their devices?

The ban reversal is not going to happen here in the US. They do make EXCEPTIONAL phones with incredible quality and fit and finish. I purchased an Honor 9x and it's a beautiful phone. It's fast and does everything I need but it's the international model so some parts are not compatible with certain apps in the Play Store.

But it's the 5G network that got them in trouble with the US Gov't. The excuse about stealing IP was just more BS by the US Gov't because the big players in the US 5G space knew Huawei was ready and ahead of the game. So they leaned on the US Gov't and got their wish. Their phones and their 5G network became an excuse for Chinese spying (because every Gov't spies on everyone else, especially the US). The US Gov't has ZERO credibility with me especially with what I have seen in this year's national election and NO I have never voted in my life and never will.

But that was Trump. Now with Biden, surely there will be changes, no? If not, then no one can just blame Trump anymore for the Huawei ban.

Maybe, who knows? It would be nice if the US Gov't would stop being such hypocrites but i'm not holding out any hope.

Read my post above. And I think the US government have more pressing matters than Huawei. But I'll say no more on that because this isn't the right section to be discussing government matters.

No need to be sorry, I just know mods don't like posts straying into that area.

It is a shame about Huawei from a tech point of view. I loved my P30 Pro. Wireless charging 2.5 times faster than Apple wired charging?! But I won't ever buy a phone that I can't use my banking apps on. Or use Google apps the proper way without messing around.

But I do wish Huawei would give it a rest with the ultra curved displays!

Hope you like it

Picked it up today and it is absolutely stunning I have to say, I love its "wider stance" versus its P sibling the P40 Pro. The circular camera housing in the center feels right and due to it being larger it feels lighter than a P40 Pro yet it is technically heavier, I guess the weight is better spread in this size.
