I'm still confused as to why you'd rather use a separate app the using the free, seamless iMessage. IT'S SEEMLESS! If the person you're sending a message to has iOS 5, it uses iMessage. If not, it uses SMS. What is so difficult about this that you need a separate app? I just don't understand people's logic sometimes...

Perhaps all the people you want to chat with are already on Whatsapp and you don't have that many people on iOS5.

I would still leave it enabled though.

reading some of these comments is hilarious. We are not arguing the merits of using imessage or not. Its a bug. if he turns it off and doesn't want to use it then apple servers must oblige and turn it off. simple as that. he turned it off on iphone and apple servers still trying to deliver it via imessage instead of other ways.

He wants to use a different app. is that too hard to understand? Or is it because its SEEMLESS and u must then use it as apple decided for u?

I would also like to do a restore, but then i will lose all my sms's. I can't stand that.

And, while "succumbing" to the bug might be a viable option in fact it isn't since iMessage doesn't work 100% as regular sms over cell.

The answer to your problem is in this thread already. You turned iMessage off on your phone but it's tied to your iCloud account. When your buddies send you a message, it is sent there, if you turned on iMessage again you would probably see a flood of messages. Turn it on and remove the email address from the Caller ID/ Receive messages at option.
