In the beginning of the year, I upgraded from my iPhone 2G to a Nokia e71x and i love the Nokia!

Now that the 3Gs has a few things that I was missing from a phone with my old iPhone, I have decided to buy an iPhone 3Gs :)

Today, I made an offer in ebay, and automatically won it. The seller has over "10" available but doesn't have much feedback, I noticed this but still made the offer not thinking I would automatically win it.

Do you think this auction is legit? It's a 3Gs 32GB "unlocked by Apple" and "sealed"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...818806&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_778wt_1146

Seller claims that it is sealed new in box unlocked by Apple...I still haven't paid as I'm looking to pay either tonight, or tomorrow morning. But I'm just not 100%..I didn't receive a confirmation email from ebay that I always get saying "congratulations, you won this item!" Perhaps I'm just being paranoid as I try to stay away from ebay buyers/sellers with low feedback.

Please let me know.

Thanks! I look forward to returning to the iPhone family and staying on the forum!

I'm not saying the seller isn't legit but he only has feedback as a buyer, I would stay away.

That is true, but with ebay and paypal protecting the buyer, and me having very good feedback(well over 100) I think that if he tries to pull a smart one with me, that I will be protected.

I mean, ebay is a buyers community, and I do sell on ebay quite frequently, and it really isn't seller friendly. So I am pretty sure that if the seller tries to scam me one way or another, I should be covered.
I don't know though.

And thanks for the input anjinhamarota :)

I would be weary, but if you really want it and you feel it is a good buy then purchase the item with paypal so you get buyer protection. And/or buy it with a credit card that has buyer protection.

I've purchased high priced items (more than that listing) off of e-bay from buyers I was concerned with and have always come out alright.

But, always be safe. There are hundreds of iphones on ebay, so if it doesn't feel right just walk away.

But my offer was accepted so basically, I'm under contract to pay for the item.
I'm just iffy about it. I am about 100% sure that I will be covered if anything were to happen.

But do you think the listing is legit?
I have read that there aren't factory sealed unlocked 3Gs iPhone's...but then I've read that there are. That confused me, and this listing being a sealed unlocked iPhone, made me question the whole situation.

EDIT: The seller also offers a 7-day money back guarantee?

Thanks to you also for the input :)

Apple doesn't unlock phones.....

if you believe it is legit
just pay for it
if he doesn't give you tracking number within a couple days
file a dispute and you'll have your money back within 14 days

thunderboltspro-- so what the heck lol

idontliketotsu-- thanks for the positiveness hehe, I will tell the seller to give me a tracking number...and if he doesn't

Apple doesn't unlock phones.....

Apple sells unlocked phones in other countries.

OP, in some other countries (Australia, Italy, Belgium) iPhones are sold factory unlocked. I got mine on eBay from Australia. It was sealed and factory unlocked so they definitely exist. Just not in the U.S. but the seller could have got them somewhere else.

That being said I would still not buy it but if you're confident you'll be covered go right ahead.

It's an absolute 100% SCAM. The user joined this month and his feedback is created with 6 items costing $.99 just to pump his feedback. Do not send money.

A 7-day money back doesnt mean anything if he doesn't get back to you. When i sold my iPod the other day pay pal held the payment until the buyer received it and made sure everything was alright. To me something doesnt look right with that first pic of the iphone open? I would stay away just to avoid any kind of hassle, he hasnt sold any so i would buy from another buy who has sold some and has feedback. Plus 3 Years warranty, apple only has one.

Doesn't paypal hold the funds on such an expensive purchase on the seller if he/she has never dealt with so much money until the buyer has received the item and confirmed it?

I did see that.

It smells like a fake.
one apple doesn't unlock phones to be sold.
two he doesn't have a solid rating.
three he has multiple phones( stolen etc)

I wouldn't risk the headache of trying to get your money back.

Do you still hae your old iphone? use that if you want or wait till you renew your plan.

Im pretty sure apple sells unlocked iPhones like in HK. so they do exist.

Again, Apple sells unlocked phones in other countries (Italy, Australia, Hong Kong...). In some other places the phones are sold locked and can be unlocked on demand (the carrier sends the serial number to Apple for it to be unlocked).

I agree with you about the rating but that doesn't mean it's a fake, it means that it's risky.

A lot of people when visiting countries with unlocked phones buy a bunch of them to sell on eBay. I did the same when I was traveling in Europe (although i did it just for friends). It definitely doesn't mean they're stolen.

anjinhamarota-- you're right, Apple does sell unlocked phones in other countries, I have a friend who lives in Australia and maybe if I don't decide to pay this auction, I can have him help me get one from over there.

The feedback does bother me, and it has me on a slight edge of worry. The seller said he will provide me with a tracking number..

walter..

He said it has a 3 year warranty, ask him buy who? Who knows this might be a one of those fake Chinese iPhones with android software lol.

Also what was your best offer? If you decide to get it call paypal and make sure its going to be covered if he screws you.

Good call, I just sent him a message asking who provides the 3 year warranty, let's see what he says lol. If he says Apple then it's definitely a scam right?

DO NOT NOT TRUST PAYPAL (which is owned by ebay) for protection. I got screwed $1600 and paypal did not do anything. Make sure to pay with your credit card since the CC company will step up with paypal fails.

If I were you I would ask your friend. Even if you have buyer protection I think the trouble in case something happens is more than what it's worth.

Another thing that worries me is that this seller is selling these iPhone for "only" $700, which is what a locked iPhone costs out of contract from AT&T. Unlocked iPhones usually go for higher, which means it's very likely that it's not legit.

Your right my bad but the seller is from the states so i was guessing he also was in the states.

the buyer is using boosting his feedback with this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250509967526

I wouldn't do it if i were you.

He could have bought them when traveling, a lot of people do that.

But I agree that it doesn't look legit.

Yea I think the consensus is pretty much to run away lol.

But, I have never done this...ok, through my over than 100 transactions in ebay, I have paid for everything that I have committed myself to purchasing. Also no problems selling, only had one problem with a buyer who didn't pay and had to file a claim.

I am committed to buying this iPhone....how do I get out and not pay? This seller can file an unpaid buyer claim and I get screwed?

Ouch I'm sorry to hear this, so you ended up losing the $1,600? That is truly not fair, I thought us as buyers are protected up to our necks, and us as sellers are basically hanging off a building with ebay...

walter..
