Why do you need an unlocked one anyway? Just go to AT&T and get a subsidized one and then unlock it yourself.

I don't really need an unlocked phone...I'm looking to replace my Nokia E71x with a 3Gs so it being unlocked or not really doesn't make a difference to me. I just saw this, made an offer of $650, and surprisingly won the phone...which is dirt cheap...another reason why this might be a scam?

I mean $650 is a lot of money, but for an unlocked 32GB 3Gs, that's very cheap right?

walter..

Ouch I'm sorry to hear this, so you ended up losing the $1,600? That is truly not fair, I thought us as buyers are protected up to our necks, and us as sellers are basically hanging off a building with ebay...

walter..

Yeah, I got the paypal denial to prove it!!! Its impossible to talk to a live person from ebay or paypal, and without my credit card, I would be minus 1600. Thank got for CitiCard MasterCard!!!

Don't trust the "buyer protection bs" ebay likes to throw around. They are the final arbiters and can't be trusted. Don't get me wrong, I still buy from ebay and paypal, BUT NEVER EVER do a straight transfer from your bank without using a credit card. The CC is protection!

Yeah I would be worried. But one time when I was selling a video game and the person bought it and paid but PayPal held the money unless I shipped through PayPal with a tracking number so they could tell when it was received or when the buyer left positive feedback. I don't know how they did that but you could try to do that. Good Luck!!

If you decide you want it then just be sure to pay with a CREDIT CARD through paypal. If in the end its fake, issue a chargeback with your credit card company. Paypal will screw the seller and you will get your money back.

I just sold my girlfriends old laptop and a month after I sold it received a chargeback notice from paypal saying that the credit card was stolen. Paypal automatically put a negative balance on my account and made me that they would try to dispute it with the credit card company, but if they lost I was responsible. Even though I did everything correctly and should have been covered as a seller. They told me that I should have built the potential for loss into my "business"...what business, I'm a 22 year old college student!

ebay and paypal will protect whoever will not cost them money.

jsupetran: I'm glad you were protected and didn't get screwed for $1,600!!! That's a big sigh of relief!

Oh goodness I'm sorry to hear that. It's sad when honest people get screwed over because of some idiot who wants to scam...ughh

And I don't have a credit card, still haven't tried getting one...since I am also a college student, and really don't find the need to get one right now. I have plenty of funds in my paypal account which I want to spend on an iPhone :) lol

I have asked the seller if we can do a mutual transaction cancel.

Yea I thought so lol

So everyone, I have decided NOT to pay, thank you everybody for giving me your thoughts, I see that this forum is a very close community, I am glad I am now a part of it....I just hope he accepts my offer to mutually cancel the transaction. If he doesn't, does anybody know what will happen? Will I be given an unpaid buyer claim, and if ebay backs up the seller, will I end up with an unpaid item strike?

I have pristine 100% feedback with over 100...I hope this doesn't end up bad for me and ruins my trouble-free rep :(

I believe you could dispute the unpaid buyer claim, all of his 6 positive feedbacks are all within the same day or 1 day of each other, which is a clear indication that something is up with this seller. Point that out to eBay and explain at first glance you thought it was OK but upon seeking further advice you became concerned.

I have had luck working with eBay in the past and if you're nice and keep your cool, they are generally pretty willing to work with you.

WOW sooo the seller just sent me a request to cancel the transaction...this makes me think that the seller has nothing to hide and that he may be legit.

Now THIS makes me wonder. I'm even more confused now hahaha

That or the seller is concerned you caught onto his scam.

By the way, I think you made the right choice. Anyone who pays $.99 for a digital picture of someone's ass is off their rocker, per one of the items they got a positive feedback for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130341022844

lol..

Clearly, as someone else pointed out above, this person is pumping their feedback scores.

Oh goodness I actually laughed out loud with that hahaha

Yea, whatta nutcase...too funny too funny

I think I did make the right choice, it's better to back off a legit too good to be true deal, than to fall for a scam and become a sucker.

Thanks everyone for the help in making my decision...because of you guys I probably just saved myself many headaches :)

I will talk to my Aussie friend and hopefully he can hook it up!

walter..

If you have 650 already then your not to far off from buying one at full price.

Ouch I'm sorry to hear this, so you ended up losing the $1,600? That is truly not fair, I thought us as buyers are protected up to our necks, and us as sellers are basically hanging off a building with ebay...

Too good to be true? Scam.

Think you'll beat the system? There are people smarter / more experienced than you who wants your money.

SCAM!

If you send the money you will never see it or the phone.

This auction has scam written all over it.

1 Month on eBay.
Seller is in Holland.
Feedback is from nickle/dime transactions.

PayPal won't be able to help you after he cashes out and you are left waiting for an iPhone that will never arrive.

Take a negative feedback if you have to, but it will hurt a lot less than $650.00

OMG I got an email from ebay saying they closed the listing because the account of the seller had "recently been accessed by an unauthorized third party who may have used the account to defraud other members."

It was a SCAM! It seemed legit, but then other aspects seemed too strange, we all caught on to it, and look...it was a scam indeed!

Thanks everyone! I almost got my face kicked in!
