Public demand does not change physics.

I have no idea of their quality, but didn't someone invent a device that made a window/pane of glass into a speaker?

Assuming that's able to create decent low-end frequencies, I wonder if Apple could implement something in future iterations of the iPad, having the LCD screen itself become the speaker.

i don't think a transducer small enough to fit in an iPad is going to provide the kind of "oomph" that transducers like this can manage: http://www.mavromatic.com/2004/05/speakerless-speaker/ so don't expect high fidelity from an ipad with a miniature transducer.

My touch has very wimpy sound which comes through the glass and back.

The sound on my iphone is far better than the sound on my netbook as well as my son's ipod touch. I'd bet that Apple will put a decent speaker in this magical device.
It's all about realistic expectations isn't it? I don't expect it to sound like anything more than a portable device, and am hoping to be pleasantly surprised!

"magical"?? OMG...no wonder Jobs loves to resort to puffery and reality distortion...
