The quad speakers are the killer feature for me on the Pro line - I couldn't go back to watching movies without them or using a BT headset.

If you're only going to keep it for a year and upgrade to the next one regardless, you should return it and get the iPad Air 2. The Air 2 still runs great and will be enough to get you by for a year. It'll still be a huge upgrade over your first gen Air and you'll save a ton of money.

It's strange, I see quite a few posts on here where others are saying that the quad speakers are not a selling point or consumers do not care about the sound on an iPad. Where I think that couldn't be farther from the truth, where the iPad is a media device, which transitions into watching movies, playing games and other media, where you want to have immersive Sound. And the iPad Pro delivers.

Depends on your usage patterns. I could care less about speakers on an iPad as I always use wired headphones or Bluetooth earbuds.

Gotcha, but so many people sing the praises of the Air 2 screen and experience on here, I'm actually tempted to try it.

It sounds like 85% of the experience for 40% of the cost.

And money is always a priority ! :)
85% of the experience?? Haha, no way, more like 30%. I just upgraded from the air 2.

Understandable. I can see why headphones would be used or is a preference. But Those quad speakers are nice though. You can hear the sound loud and clear, and even at half volume, they sound impressive.

Agreed - they do sound very nice. But my usual usage is in the general living areas of the house and my wife isn't interested in hearing games, videos, music, etc. from my iPad so "impressive" just makes it worse! But for those who do use the speakers, they are a very good selling point.

I would just take the 10.5 back and get a cheaper 10.5 version with less memory. I'm not sure what your current memory use is but for what you said you do you would be fine with 64GB of storage. I had preordered a 256GB 12.9 ipad pro but I ended up canceling it and just getting a 12.9 64gb. I did this because I didn't want to spend $949 for an ipad. The 64gb has been fine and I still have 30GB free after doing a restore. Unless this is the only device/place you can store photo's on you can always delete apps your not using and download them when need be. A lot of people think they need all the space they can get, but the majority of people don't use the extra space and if they do have a ton of apps they never use.

I have a 10.5" pro, but actually Im thinking of returning it, and just buying an Air 2 as an upgrade from my Air 1.

Plan would be to hold the Air 2 for a year and than pass to my wife and upgrade to the 2018 iPad Pro.

Our usage is browsing, email and some basic apps, we do experience Safari reloads and slow apps loading, but i assume the Air 2 would resolve a lot of those problems?

My Pro is costing just over 1100 Euros with a smart cover, and it doesn't seem worth it to me right now.

Just wondering does that plan make sense. I'd sell the Air 1 we have for around 200 Euros, buy an Air 2 64 Gb for 419, so a decent upgrade for 200 Euros.

I returned the 10.5 after using it a week and went back to my air 2. For my use it wasn't worth the $700 plus I thought my air 2s screen looked better. I will wait until the next version of the 10.5. The only thing I wish my air 2 had was the four speakers.

The iPad Air 2 was apple’s last great design before they lost their way. The camera bumps on the new iPads are a no for me. I’ll be sticking with my air 2 until Apple can design an as attractive piece of hardware as this little beastie.

I'm not really following your viewpoint here. The overall design iPad hasn't significantly changed at all since the iPad Air 2. Granted there is a Camera bump, but is that really that much more unaesthetically pleasing or does that take away from the experience or the iPad? Its just my opinion, but the iPad is one gorgeous piece of hardware.

I suppose it isn’t that much different, but it’s still backwards in design, even if it’s just a little. For me, I place my air 2 on its back a lot for different tasks, and to have the camera scraping on the counter or tables isn’t ideal. I also want the lightest tablet I can get, and the pro is heavier. It’s just my opinion and preference too, but, I’m planning on holding onto my air 2 until it breaks or can’t perform the applications I need. Hopefully by then the new pro is just a thin sheet of glass and metal. :)

No but a case fixes that, and from my unofficial outlook, the majority of people use a case, so that problem is largely mitigated.

iPad Air 437 grams, vs. the 10.5 iPad Pro at 469 grams. For 32 gram increase, you get a larger display more memory, faster cpu, and a better camera (among other improvements).

I'm not knocking the Air 2, but the design of the IPP isn't that different, but you get an all around beast of a tablet imo.

I have the 10.5 iPad Pro but am returning it, I'll just get the basic iPad, for me I can't justify the Pro, I have the 2017 MBP 13" which does most things as well if not better already.

I've found I only use the iPad Pro for watching Netflix and maybe some web browsing, I never use the speakers

I think that's a fine iPad. I'm toying with the idea of buying that for my wife. She needs a simple tablet just for facebook, emails and such

You folks thinking of going the Air 2 route instead I advise trying the new software beta at least before committing.

One issue with the Air 2 that kept me from buying it was how much the screen vibrated & resonated if you turned up the volume even a little bit. The test model at my local Best Buy exhibited this behavior and I hated it. I could feel it furing gaming or typing. Head phone users wont notice but its worth making sure this doesnt bother you. It drove me crazy.

The lack of speaker damping and super-thin(too thin) chassis caused this, IMO.

I ended up picking up a Air 2 (64GB) for $200 in mint condition. I used to have the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but I honestly didn't need all of that, so I sold it. I considered getting the 10.5-inch iPad, but I really couldn't justify spending nearly $500 more on it over the Air 2 I found. I had no interest in the 2017 iPad, as the screen was a deal breaker for me...that's the one thing you ALWAYS look at, and a bad screen can completely ruin the experience.

That’s also something else to consider, the price is a lot for an iPad. The updates don’t really justify the cost to me, personally.

Ability to use the Pencil on it is one of the selling points that have made me want to consider getting the 10.5 Pro. The 12.9 was too big but the 10.5 felt just right. I have an Air 2 at the moment and it still works like a champ. Even though the 10.5 was definitely smoother and faster, I would not buy it just based on performance or screen alone.

For me, once Apple went with 4 speakers I no longer wanted a 2 speaker model. I create videos, many with music and sharing them is much better with the 4 Pro speakers. but the Air 2 was an amazing design.

I could see why someone with the 2015 12.9 iPad Pro or 9.7 iPad Pro were not as tempted to upgrade as much as somebody with an older iPad, such is the Air One or older, being that the hardware hasn't change ultimately. It's basically the display and a lot of internal features that you're receiving. But nonetheless, very nice upgraded features And speed.
