MBP all the way... it has a keyboard that can tell when its dark and lights up!!! that right there does it for me...no seriously. ok maybe that its anodized aluminum and runs OS X too.

why oh why do these threads keep popping up?

Yes, Macs cost more, they look nicer, they run better and the OS is superior, so your paying a premium for a better machine. IMO (and I think many other Mac users) the extra bit you pay is worth it.

These threads are akin to comparing a honda civic to a mustang, wow...one cost more than the other, they both have 4 wheels, and an engine. Why would anyone get a mustang?

It's true that you can run all the same useful apps (or their equivalents) on an Alienware laptop.

And don't forget that there are lots of other programs that you'll have access to if you do switch to a PC. A short sample:

VBS/Haptime.A-mm
VBS/LoveLetter.A-mm
VBS/Redlof.A-m

W32/Blaster.A
W32/Blaster.B
W32/Blaster.C
W32/Blaster.D
W32/Blaster.E
W32/Blaster.F
W32/Codbot!ITW#16
W32/Funlove.4099
W32/Golten
W32/Inforyou-mm
W32/Korgo.AA
W32/Locksky!ITW#12
W32/Mydoom.BA-mm
+W32/Mytob!ITW#466
W32/Netsky.B-mm
W32/Sober.J-mm
W32/Sobig.E-mm

;)
hahaha classic!

But to the OP. I think you have a very valid point and if you're not hooked on OSX then you found the MBP's replacement it seems. I mean, I wouldn't want it, but hey---that's me not you.
So I say go for it. And you get 2x hdd...which I think is great!

Anybody that says "i'm a professional video editor" or "i am serious about gaming" and then goes and buys a laptop clearly isn't thinking of their own proclaimed priorities. No matter how powerful a laptop is, there is always going to be a significantly more powerful (and cheaper) desktop out there somewhere. The truly best solution for people who are actually professionals or really serious about gaming is to have an ultra powerful deskop, and then a fairly cheap laptop for the road, which together probably costs the same as one butt-ugly 10lb Alienware.

In other words, I could be using everything i'm using right now, on a PC. Using AIM messenger instead of iChat, Limewire instead of Acquisition, and Microsoft Word instead of Text Edit..

You could be using Microsoft Word on a Mac. Plus, PCs don't have options that even resemble iLife. But wait a second, what are we even talking about? Do you need a $3000+ computer for AIM, Limewire, and Word?

Who says the laptop has to be the main machine? I know plenty of people who have laptops and higher-end desktops both. Laptops are at least more portable than the desktops, and it's not like it's a huge performance hit.

Hell, why is anyone buying a laptop when it's obvious that desktops with similar if not better specs are cheaper than a laptop? It's usually the portability :p

I think the problem starts to come when people point to the 1" thin MBP and complain that it doesn't have the power of a desktop, or an Alienware laptop, which by all definitions is essentially a desktop.

I'm not really surprised by those specs that the alienware has...
Apple never really has had "performance" computers that really break the speed barrier, OSX and FCP are really the only reasons I have a Mac, or else I'd have a crazy PC running....windows...

Alienware is still over priced IMHO. I have always drooled over their computers, but the price factor is too much.

For a gamer who doesn't have time to build their own pc and has the dough, it's a good buy, but you still have to wrestle with Windoze.....I'll pass on that.
