I’ll say this; hope you continue to be 9 years older than me for a long time.

Totally agree on having a purpose to live for, imo it drives us humans.
When I retire in 1-2 years I’ll volunteer HfH as a crew leader, and possibly fix bikes for free for those in need.

Technology; I went from using slide rule in 8th grade math to earliest red and green display calculators thru high school. Learned Fortran 1981 college on TED, text editor , to store programs. Literally you had no screen, paper printout, had to know it in your head and hard copy printout. Had a Timex Sinclair in 1983 was revolutionary, then I had the original 128k Macintosh 9/1984..
was a member of Ann Arbor MacGroup, 1985 thru late 1990’s. who remembers Apple sponsoring local clubs? I used to teach Mac stuff there, various classes.

never owned a WinTel. Owned a Newton 110. Programmed 6502 processor in assy language..
HyperCard, remember that?
Apple literally almost owned the internet there.. if those links were over network wow.

Exercise is key to long healthy life, my uncle Tony is 89 and his grip still crushes mine. He’s 3x week in gym still. I MTB bike with friends, will do so into my 70’s. Used to race in the mid/late 1990’s.

1st marriage failed, went on a 3 year self discovery journey. Fortunately met my soulmate, 3 kids .. now 2 in college 1 senior high school. I learned so much with them. Family matters above all else.

I see the glass ceiling above my head.
Mom passed, my father soon.
Friends are starting to pass more and more, each one hurts.

Today’s society.. so much potential, I’m eternally optimistic for youth.

I was married for 10 years, and then my marriage failed. I too took 3 years to see who I am, what I like and just get my priorities in order. I have been blessed to meet the woman of my dreams and I definitely married up. In 2024, we'll be celebrating 20 years of marriage.

I was 55 when I first appeared on MacRumors In 2008.
I can remember looking in the mirror as a 16 year old (1969) shuddering at the idea of being 47 years old in 2000, god, being old, and wondering if I’d still have hair. I still have some, just not on top. ;) Now, it feels like that was another life, how things have changed so much, and so many moved onto the next phase whatever that is. No I’m not worried about the Grim Reaper, because I don’t think the journey will be over, just reflecting about this life, this taste of a reality.

When you are young, you think you have forever, but the reality is time accelerates and it flies by faster than you think it will. I could add, it’s just as well, as things for humanity seem to be going to hell. I’ve said it before, that this could be The Earth Simulator, one of thousands of experience offered as the next adventure you're sure you want to go on, have some excitement and adventure, only $10k credits. :D

Happy belated 71st birthday .
What did you consider accomplishments this past year?

My 25th wedding anniversary tomorrow.
Happy belated 26th wedding anniversary, our 25th is summer 2025, possibly going to Europe with a group doing a 8 day e-bike tour of Croatia .

Thank you. Hmm, I don’t really think in terms of achievements, but I am still active in the gym and in the pool 3 times a week. Better than becoming a lump on the couch. This year, finally made it to Monet’s garden, not an achievement either, just a travel note. :)

I can't believe it either! We've both been around here awhile. Good to see you're still actively gaming at 70!
In that department I usually post in the Gaming forum, but am currently playing, Cyberpunk 2077 (playing on hard), Starfield, Fallout 4, and World of Warships. I believe this helps the old brain, plus they provode adventure and escapism.

Yet I‘m suffering from some level of a lack of short term memory retention. I’m able to manage routine life, keep bills paid, etc, but have a hard time with keeping a shopping list in my head. Yet I’m able to rebuild my PC with reliance on a lot of notes, files, and accessing the internet as my ready access resource.

To watch Umbrella Academy Season 4, which I’m starting today, I re-watched the first 3 seasons, I could remember some things, a general framework, but did not recall that Season 2 took place in 1960-1963 Dallas, Texas, but I could remember as I watched it, that it was familiar. There must be a name for this. Maybe some early level of dementia. 🤔

One of the hardest things about going to the triple was getting used to international controllers using the 8.33 spacing. "Wait, I gotta read back THREE digits after the decimal?" It's bad enough just dealing with frequency changes, but if they combine it with a heading, forget it! :p :p

It took a bit, but after a while, I got used to the Japanese Air Controllers. :)

I’m convinced gaming helps your brain. My short term memory is shot, but put a sword in my hand and give me augmented physical abilities (Cyberounk 2077 ref), and I can be a terror to bad guys. ☺️

Newness and change does help the brain connect new pathways.
I has a crash on my Mtb bike 3 weeks ago, right thumb / palm hurt and 4-5 weeks at least recovering.
But I gotta Mtb ride, fortunately have sram AXS electronic shifting, swapped the pod from right to left and now 2 weeks into doing that.

I’m wearing this wrist brace to manage impulse loads thru the palm / wrist.

If you zoom in on handlebar left side the shifting pod is there now .
If the bike had old fashioned cables for rear derailleur, like my other 2 bikes, I’d not be riding. Thumb has zero push ability now.

So whatever it takes, keep active, change the routine, etc.

3 times a week in the gym for me and yard work in the 90s F is my physical.

For video games, melee combat in Cyberpunk 2077 starts simple but requires developing some muscle memory (which buttons to push and when) when dashes, normal vs strong attacks, double jumps, air dashes, etc, are incorporated into movement. In addition the game is mostly in a first person perspective, making close quarter combat with multiple adversaries more challenging to maintain bearings in relationship to where adversaries are. For bad guys behind me, I find I rely on a visible red arc that indicate where damage to myself is coming from behind me. Relative open space is much preferred for fighting. There I can move fast and zero in. :)
