you currently have a n6 which came out in december i believe, and already want to switch phones to a s6 or m9... are you loaded or just really paranoid about not having the latest phone?

if you aren't playing massive video games, calm down and relax, your phone is good enough.

Not loaded per se but I am quite interested in trying a smartphone with the chip that the S6 will be coming with.

The N6 is a large smartphone, no way around that. It isn't unweilding me owning other large smartphone and getting pretty use to them but the S6 will definitely be better for ergonomics.

Funny thing I really don't care about the camera, fingerprint scanner and some other things as well and I don't mind having no access to the battery or not adding a SD card.

I have an LG G3 as well, no problem with heat considering the Qhd display which was quite relieving after reading it plagued a decent number of those devices.

Not sure how the S6 will be with a Qhd display for that screen size, seems like overkill. Heat problems and battery life? Time will tell.

Watched the 3 point game winning shot by Georgia State on the N6. No need to go home with this display! Oh baby! :)

Thinking about the S6 but with this smartphone I rid myself of TouchWiz, bloat, I have a larger great display and memory management with the N6 is excellent. Did I say oh baby?! :)

Out of interest how much memory does it use even with loads of apps open?

I ask because my Moto X 2014 can have a dozen apps open all ready in the background and app manager still tells me there is about 1gb free.

I'm just wondering if 3gb is needed in stock android. Not that it's a bad thing, just whether it actually uses it.

Touchwiz fair enough because it's so bloated it needs lots of ram but stock ?

There is 2GB always free, trust me that I have been checking it. :)

Yeah that's what I thought. Seems strange that they felt need to go to 3gb, but I guess if they didn't you would have had the complainers out again.

It might be useful for future Android releases, who knows.

Never turn your nose up more RAM. They should always put in more RAM than is currently necessarily because in a year or two you will definitely be thankful it's there. I'm glad they're learning this in the recent generations, lack of RAM was a big problem with older Android devices.

Apps do refresh though, I am not sure if 5.1 will make any difference. I guess time will tell.

Even after only one minute, Subway Surfers has to refresh when I move to something else and go back.

I am noticing that with 3GB of RAM, I pretty much don't have to worry about RAM these days. So maybe 3GB is the sweet spot for it on a Nexus device.

You having app refreshes like I am experiencing? Another one besides Subway Surfers is the chrome browser.

A bit diseheartning since my Moto X 2014 on 5.0 is fine, no refreshes.

Saw the blue version the other day and whilst it was large, it was a decent price so had me thinking. Haven't ran stock since the Nexus 4 but I have a couple of hardware concerns.

First is the camera. If its close to the Note 4 that'd be fine but I wouldn't want it to be too far off the competition as the Nexus 4 and 5 were.

Second is the 2560 and Snap 805 combo in 3D games. My Note 4 only ever lagged in Crazy Taxi City Rush after about 5 minutes seemingly due to throttling. Wondering if Motorola did something different to avoid this. From what I read the Exynos Note 4 didn't suffer from this.

Chrome in general is very bloated unfortunately, on desktop OS's and on Android.

My S4 will have to load up the launcher again if I use a graphic intensive site in Chrome for too long.

I did a test on my note 4.

With only Google homepage loaded Chrome used or allocated itself 300mb! of system memory.

Samsung Internet Browser same page used or allocates 190mb

Both seem exceedingly excessive tbh, however because of Chromes extra size I decided to uninstall it and just use Samsung Internet.

Its a joke that an app with only a Google search bar page loaded would ever use 300mb

The weirdest thing about this however is that Chrome on my Moto X uses nothing like that amount of memory even with 9 or 10 tabs open.

So goodness knows what the hell is going on in Touchwiz or Chrome/Internet on the Note 4.

This kind of thing is what irks me about android skins - bloat is more than just extra apps - its discrepancies in ram usage like this too .....

Okay so I just loaded up Chrome and it shows up as four different processes on my phone, under cached processes in app settings. The various Chrome processes use 154MB, 73MB, 14MB, and 25MB. Total of 266MB. All I did was open a simple mobile page with a few images and the default Google search page. I have no idea why it split itself into different processes either but the Google app has done the same thing, it has two processes. Strange.

Anyway, for some reason Chrome does seem to hog more resources in TouchWiz going by our comparison but on any platform Chrome is a massive resource hog anyway. Open it on a Mac and see how much RAM it eats in Activity Monitor as you use it.

I caved and bought a Nexus 6

I've owned one alongside my iPhone 6 since it was released in the UK. Very good device other than the fact that it's rather awkward to use because of its size. Recently updated to 5.1 but haven't so far been able to distinguish many differences in its performance. Not sure if I'll keep it much longer though because I do find the size something of a nuisance in day to day use.

Not really. I'll occasionally have a tab refresh, but not often.

Are you running on 5.1? Chrome browser and Subway Surfers always refreshes on 5.0 for me.

I read on another thread that 5.1 fixes that so I am pursuing how to install it and was given suggestions there.

I haven't seen an Android phone where Chrome can actually keep the tabs opened in the background.

It can with one on some devices, but not with two tabs.

After seeing disappointing battery test results from the M9 and the S6 to some degree, the OP's Nexus 6 purchase is starting to look wiser each day.

I have been using phones from 4.7 to 5" for two years and after enjoying typing on my Mom's iPhone 6 Plus, time for me to upgrade to the 5.5-6" range. I won't notice much of difference if the screen was only 0.3 larger. By a full inch or more is when you will see a major difference in experience.

For freshness terms, I like S6 edge. But for practical terms, I really want a bigger screen so phones like Nexus 6, Note 4, and Mate 7 are always contenders to me. Maybe even 6s Plus if I ever did return to iOS even though I HATE iTunes.

Quite disappointed to hear that. I'm getting a Nexus 6 (already got an iPhone 6 but wanted some big screen, pure Android action) and after there being so much drama on the iOS forums about tab refreshes, I thought it was just an iOS problem related, as many people were assuming, to the iPhone's lower RAM spec.

Should be arriving tomorrow. Haven't used Android since a brief fling with a 1st Gen Nexus 7 which was over almost as soon as it started.

I was hoping to get the 5.1 update OTA before 14 days after I purchased it but that doesn't like good.

The Nexus 6 is a great smartphone, 5.1 by what I have been reading in other forums as well elevates refreshes. The way I use the Nexus 6 though this isn't an issue, I was only opening lots of apps out of curiosity. Don't get me wrong cause I have smartphones with 1GB running Kit Kat that don't refresh apps. It is disheartening about the Nexus 6 doing it but like I said this smartphone is great especially for browsing and videos and games and 5.1 should take care of refreshes.

That's good to know. Thanks. Hopefully being a Nexus device it'll get plenty of support....
Has anyone got any experience with camera apps on the N6? Any work faster than the stock one? Heard it's a bit slow.
