I'm on iOS 9.0.1 and have been lagging ever since I updated to iOS 9. In settings > general > accessibility go to increase contrast and turn on reduce transparency. Also turn on reduce motion. It's not as pretty as it was before but I have NO lag now and it might actually be faster than 8.4.1. Hope this helps.
Reduce transp is ugly as heck.

It IS! Had to turn that switch right back off. I've always used "reduce motion" - because the parallax effect makes me sorta seasick.. Lol.. Always hated that. But I really don't think it saves much battery.

We should be demanding from Apple that we have a Battery capable of leaving on all of the iPhone's cool ***** all day. I don't spend $800 to have to turn off half of its features.

Right now people are adjusting these settings to help counter the stutter / lag they are experiencing, not because of a Battery issue.

I hate how things pop in and out with reduce motion on and reduce transparency makes the OS look like crap.

apple are some sneaky devils. In 9.1 Beta 2 they enabled reduce transparency in the app switcher only. Thats why its smoother now on the 6 Plus.

So you have to disable transparency and animations to make it almost as bearable as iOS8 WITH transparency and animations?

Excuse me whilst I laugh

A lot of the problems are poor coding. There is noticeable jank when triggering spotlight by pulling the home screen down. And it persists regardless of reduce motion/transparency. And it even was there on the 6s I checked out in store. Yet pretty much the same action in the "proactive" screen comparatively smooth. This type of stuff has been pretty much par for the course through iOS 7-9.
Cool so that kills the planned obsolescence conspiracy theory. Well unless they are already planning for the iPhone 7 since Fridays release of the "s" series. :)

Low Power Mode certainly extends the battery. And even without it a lot of people experience good battery life. The faster part is more questionable with many mostly seeing the same performance (and some having more lag/glitches for some reason). Not completely unexpected from a x.0 release unfortunately.

Apple stated that the new OS would be more efficient and give you an extra hour of battery life. From the benchmarks I've seen, you don't get anywhere close to that number.

iOS 9 is a bunch of failed promises.

I've seen reports of people getting some additional battery life.

I read an article (don't have the source) where it showed various iOS 9 vs 8 battery tests. iOS 9 slightly came out on top, but no where near apple's claims. Obviously non-scientific battery tests on forums will show things going both ways for users. I won't deny users gaining battery, but I don't think the numbers Apple gave us have been accurate with real world usage.

Well the claim is up to an hour more normally, which can certainly vary for different people under different usage, and especially right after an update when some people run into some more battery instability at times. The Low Power Mode was said to provide even more extra time, and that certainly is easier to notice and appears to be the case for many.

And there's no iPhone ever released (after the 4 - which was a battery dream phone - I could go 3 days before a recharge) that's come close to living up to Apple specs. The 6S+, with a clean restore of 9.0.1 and with battery meter properly calibrated after 2 days.. has gotten closest to Apple specs for me of any phone since iPhone 4.

My 6S plus has been absolutely flawless. No issues or stutters at all. Everything I expected

I know on my Mini 3 the battery life is not as good. :(
Then again, this could be tied to the "bugs" and other issues I am seeing on that device. o_O

Depending on the app, the app itself could affect the battery life differently on different OS versions.
