... I am thinking of bumping it to 4GB. (Only 3.3GB will be usable.) The stuff that I still need windows for seems to run best in at least 1GB of ram. (I also swapped the HD for a 7200rpm/200GB model.)

I didnt think Mini's go upto 4GB... even unspported. I think its 3GB unsupported

The mac mini supports 24" monitors fine.

The mac mini will use about 3.25 ish gb of the 4gb RAM you put in.

mini ram

I've put another gig of ram in my mini yesterday. Took be about an hour to get it in!

It has made the computer faster, particuarly when using aperture. :)

Updates to Mac mini -

My mother purchased a Mac mini December 2007. She is not running the latest release of Leopard. She uses the system for accessing the internet, reading mail, and printing. The Mac mini is 1GB RAM, 1.83 GHz (maybe 1.66), 120GB hard drive.

Should she update the Mac mini with latest version of OS (Leopard 10.5.3) and is the latest release of Safari part of the 10.5.3 release?

I agree with the earlier comments about using a 24 inch monitor with the mini. I've used my 1.66 Mini with a Dell 24 inch and have had no issues.

As far as memory, I jumped from the stock 512MB to 2GB and am impressed with the performance. I would regard 1 GB as the minimum acceptable and think it is well worth bumping the memory further.

I ordered a 3 GiB kit from OWC, however the 1 GiB is defective (DOA) and needs to be replaced. So for now I'm running the Mac mini on 2.5 GiB. :D
