The 16gb/1tb I ordered was $400 less than the equivalent i7 configuration.

And even better, I suspect I won’t feel a need to add an eGPU lol.

Delivery in mid December.

Man, delivery is already to mid-December? Crazy.

I ordered the same config right when the store opened. Comes this week. Can't wait! Even with the limitations and what is sure to be better computers coming in the next year, this one is going to be light years faster than my late-2012 Mac Mini that I'll be retiring.

This is purely out of curiosity, but why order a Mac Mini when you can get a MacBook Air with similar specs for $300 more and connect it to an external monitor?

Edit: I noticed that Mac Mini has a full I/O hub, including 2 USB-A ports and HDMI.
I imagine that due to the form factor, if all you intend is to use it docked to a screen, it can be more convenient to have it tucked under your monitor or TV.

It was also mentioned earlier that it would have better cooling, and thus better at certain sustained tasks.

Probably easier to store and manage all round if you never intend to move it from its spot.

Maybe now with more people jumping onboard buying but I ordered my mac mini 16gb/256gb on the evening of 10 Nov and it has already shipped with a arrival date on UPS tracking of 17 Nov.
Ok, I went back to look at UPS tracking this morning. No arrival date shown now, just listed in transit. I could be surprised but I think there is no way it reaches me from Taiwan by tomorrow.

I'm thinking about getting one too. I was hoping for the 24" iMac to come at this event, but it did not. I'm starting to think that a mini is the more economical option, as it will mostly be a testing machine to see what I think of AS and what I can/cannot do with it. I did just buy a 2020 iMac, so it's probably best to just get the mini and upgrade in a few years if AS can meet my needs.

I'm going to end up convincing myself to get one once I see the real world benchmarks. I just wish they beef'd up the performance since the Mini isn't relying on battery and has a better cooling setup than the pro & air.

It does seem as though performance on the mini is the highest of the 3 although the margins are not huge.

I'm going to order myself one tomorrow as well. 16GB-1TB. In Belgium, delivery of the 16GB model is also 14-21 December, later than the 8GB.

I am picking it up instead of a laptop because I have a 16" MBP. I'm getting it to test it out. I know my colleagues will ask me if they are better off with an Intel vs the M1. We use lots of Adobe software and web apps that require Chrome. And there's only one way to really know if it will do what we want: try it out for real. I'm very much looking forward to it, because it's one of those very few (these days) major changes in the computing industry and it'll be nice to be part of it from the start. If it works fine, it'll be my main machine in the office and I can keep the 16" for home working.
EDIT: Ordered with expected delivery second half of December. Got the 512GB/16GB in the end & the savings went to a 4k screen.

Selling my 2012 Mac Mini was one of my biggest tech regrets, but I was buying a house in 2016, and needed every penny. I’d upgraded the RAM, so I ended up getting more than I paid for it.

Ordered an 8gb Mini straightaway and it arrives tomorrow. Can’t wait.

I ordered 8 GB and the half terabyte ssd. Changed my mind and maxed it out, but will take advantage of the longer Apple return period before the holidays.

Yeah, like i said above, I should really just return it, but I figure I'll try it out while I wait for my loaded model in December. My iMac is on its last legs.
Will be fun to have a play with and see how much the base model on this new chip can achieve.

I’m normally someone who upgrades every few years, and either passes on the machine to someone else in the family or resells, so I’ve gone base model this time.

I spec-ed up my early 2020 MBA and ended up being filled with regret ?

Unfortunately, as of Friday last week I backed out of everything. Initially, it was the MacBook Pro 13 M1 with 16 and 512. This was the no brainer for me; same crappy camera, massive bezels, same 2016 design. Then it was the iPhone 12 Pro Max; watching MKBHD tear the phone apart and point out the only reason(s) to buy it are the massive screen, and larger battery. But then the heartbreak, I cancelled the Mac mini. My 2018 Mac mini i3 was NIB in April of 2020, and with a 32Gb memory add, it just pur's along, but I wanted the M1. Since the beta guys were not allowed by NDA to discuss their beta Mac mini's, we would have to wait for the "legal reviews." That was until several reviews hit Slashdot, and all but one were bad. So my current iPhone 11 and 2018 Mac mini will have to wait until sometime 2021 to get a rest. I can fell the Apple tug, but am going to fight the urge, mostly because I'm tired of Apple outdating my new hardware in less than 6 months.

What do they say? Quickly browsing that site, I find a report that the M1 isn't faster than 98% of the laptops (been there before) and that it doesn't work with eGPU, but no reviews.

because I'm tired of Apple outdating my new hardware in less than 6 months.

You should try Google once... Bought a brand new Nexus 6p to get myself into a rock solid ecosystem that set the Android standards. 2 months later, Google cancelled the whole Nexus brand and all updates. Planned obsolence is a fact, but Apple isn't the worst offender by far.

@OP:
Many congrats with your purchase, i hope you will like it alot !
I am also lurking towards a Macmini M1 but i do audio & music production and the 16 gig RAM limit is a possible showstopper for me; i work with lots of high quality samples in my Projects, loaded into RAM.
I am afraid 16 gig RAM will not be enough for my needs...

I ordered the base mac mini for store pickup in the U.K. tomorrow.

I have zero intention of keeping it. I am going to test it out and then return it.

I could do with a new laptop but I want the 16 inch model and that doesn’t have the M1 yet.

Also the base Mac mini is £628 with education discount so very reasonable even though I will return it.

I’m in a similar boat. I pulled the trigger on the 16GB/2TB version to replace my 2009 Mac Pro.
Similar here too - replacing my 2012 Mini Server quad core i7 with a base M1 Mini.

My weeklong wait is getting longer - still no movement - not shipped yet!

WTH - I see 4 Apple Stores near me that have the base Mini available for today - and mine pre-ordered and paid for a week in advance - I get treated like a second stepchild....
