For me, I just flat out can't justify the price of the iPhone. I'd love to have one, and while I could afford one without a problem, it just seems like a huge waste of money.
$600 up front for the phone, at least $75-80 a month over the next two years for the voice+data plan, possibly more. That works out to over $2500 over the next two years, for a phone that does not have 3G (which I have become addicted to, since I rely on Google for all of my information) and who's battery may conk out one year into the 2 year contract.
Compare that to my Motorola Q, which I got for $80 (with $175 in rebates) and pay $30-35 a month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data. The cost over 2 years is only just over $600. So basically, with what I'm paying for the iPhone up front, I can cover the cost of a phone and service for the next 2 years. Plus, I get the bonus of having 3G service so I can look up information and post to my blog from anywhere.
The iPhone is really cool and I'm sure it'll be a great product, but it's certainly not $2000 better than my Motorola Q. Not without 3G.
