I have kind of a funny story about my phone that relates to that... I got my enV a month ago and a week after I got it some idiot pushed me while I was holding it and it took a nasty fall, had some pretty intense gouges throughout the case, and it bugged the hell out of me. 2 days ago, the front LCD died, and I got a replacement! Now I am going to be more careful (even though it wasn't my fault) Guess I was meant to have a perfect phone lol.

Shouldn't the idiot pay for damages?

brand new MB dropped to the carpet because of puppy (may i say, do not get a pup, if you do know what you are getting into). Tiny nick on the bottom near batt. So far MB works fine so just be glad the machine is ok! Apple Store did tell me that if you ever bring it in and say there is something wrong (trying to exchange it for a new one) they will do their best not to. I guess a few years ago they had probs with "anal" (I am myself ;) ) people exchanging stuff because of cosmetic things saying their computer crashes all the time blah blah just to get a "fresh" one out of the box.

wow 250 dolllars for a replacement bottom with a high degree of difficulty for installation. forget it i'll just deal wit it. but i am buyin one of these bad boys: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230093264698#ebayphotohosting

it looks like a good deal, if anyone knows about these let me know if they work or what not

I have one of these on my MBP, and its pretty sturdy. The heat flow is pretty much the same as it would be without it because on the bottom there are airvents. This won't affect the performance of the fans at all because the case does not block the main vent in the back. It does get dirty inside though. The case does not have a air tight seal against the MBP (which is a good thing) but little particles of dirt and crumbs can get between. But once you take out off the shield, and do a quick wipe, all the dirt is gone and your MBP looks brand new again. The only draw back to this case is that its cumbersome to open the lid. Since the plastic pretty thick, you have to really dig in there to press the latch release button all the way down.

Other than that, I find more peace of mind in this. I also find myself doing something that I shouldn't be doing with a MBP, like throwing my cell phone and keys on it. With the case on, I can do just that and not worry about messing up my computer. Hope this information helps.

Not to hijack the thread are anything but...

What do you all think of this. My baby fell of the coffee table last night...
Everything works fine but the lid doesn't close right.

At least you had more luck then me ;)
When my powerbook fell of the coffee table last year, the display broke and I couldn't use it anymore!

I think that A. you can't hijack a thread that is 7 months old :)

and B. the EXACT same thing just happened to a friend of mine. It seriously looks exactly the same.

She took it to the apple store, and they said to put some stickers over it and use a rubber band or something, or it would cost her BIG bucks

I did...i even got that tingly sensation in my arms and chest. I've had a sick feeling all day.

That's not what i wanted to hear.
I've estimated the cost to be around $400 if i replace both the top and bottom case. Should I just try my luck at selling it?

I may even try bending it back into place, maybe with the aid of heat? Any thoughts?

Go to http://www.ifixit.com/ read the instructions on how to remove the top case, and then try prising it back out. Take your time over it, keep putting the top case back on on to check progress, and do it quickly. If you leave it too long, the plastic top case will 'train' into its distorted shape and the whole problem will be that much harder to solve.

I sat on my open MBP when it was on the bed and bent the bottom case: the result was that the CD slot was compressed too tight to insert CDs and the ultra thin strip above the latch button got stretched and now bulges out, so I know what you're going through. It's heart-breaking after paying all that money to get something so beautiful. I spent a long time getting the slot back into a useable state, but the latch-surround bulge remains as a constant reminder of how fragile these things are.

Good luck.

Does anyone suggest maybe heating the plastic and/or metal to press it back into shape?
It was so easily bent, yet its so hard to bend back:confused:

I doubt it'd be necessary to heat it, and that seems very dangerous, especially in terms of discoloring. Maybe you can follow ifixit's directions for removing the top-plate of the laptop, giving you plenty of room to work on straightening it out. Once it's off, it may be easier to bend it back with your hands (or gently bending using vice grips) so that it will snap back on like it's supposed to

anything you try will probably have some risk of worsening the situation, but it sure as hell beats shelling out hundreds of dollars for replacement parts or to get someone else to do it, imo.

let us know what you end up doing and how it works out
