True, and neither is the M395X.
Unless we're talking about older, less demanding games, but they generally work with 2 GB as well.

If you really want a 5k gaming machine, get a dual or even quad SLI setup with 980 TIs, anything else will just require you to play with low details and/or low FPS.

I have no need for gaming at all. I think even the 380 would be enough for me. I feel bad just because I could have gotten a better machine with $20 more.

My IT person called Apple and was able to stop the order. He recommended i7, so I got new order with i7 and 512 GB SSD.

Thank you all for posting here. I sort of lost it when I see a post from some dude asking to not 'blame everything on Apple'. what a ******.

Too right Garirry, self entitled people thinking that everyone has to do everything for them, I'm sure he'd be the same person on here moaning if apple didn't allow him to order exactly what he wanted even if it was only $20 difference with a better spec...

Wow...

I pointed out some pricing that doesn't make sense and you just jump out to protect your Apple Dad.

Really?

Not defending apple just pointing out the inconsistencies in what people want, they do want lots of choice but then don't want the associated pricing conflicts, they do want replacable parts, but also want rock solid thin and light machines, they do want the best components but then go crazy when apple wait for the best to be released.

This thread is just another example of those inconsistencies, and you not taking responsibility for your own purchases you even moan when apple allow you to just cancel the order or send the product back within 14 days no questions asked.

I'm not defending apple I'm insisting people take responsibilty for doing their own research, if you think apple pricing is crazy and inconsistent just try buying a computer from a competitor and see how bad it can really get with 5 different models all with upgrades to every part, and different prices at 30 different retailers.

I'm not saying they are perfect but they are one of the best for pricing and making it easy to see the differences.

It's not so much that you pointed out some pricing inconsistency, but your line "Next time, I would not trust Apple. They only want to make more money and don't care if someone got caught up by things like this."

We all know Apple's a bit greedy and makes a metric **** ton of money off of us. That's what allows them to have this amazing return policy where you can take out the iMac from the box, do whatever you want to it for 14 days, and return it, no questions asked, no restocking fees charged.

But the way you whined about this inconsistency is just pathetic. First of all, you already got a good deal from using the education store (about 15% discount). Second, Apple Education Store is known for its odd pricing. In some configurations the M390 is actually more expensive than the M395, holding everything else the same.

The way you blamed Apple for your own laziness to check out all the options was just hilarious. No one here is protecting Apple, we all know what we're getting into when we buy an Apple product. If you don't like to pay premium don't buy Apple. And please try to take responsibility for your own actions and research.

well he does sort of have a point. apple did nothing wrong. they offered two similar configurations and one is a better deal (on education) than the other. both were there for you to buy, you chose one and now wish you chose another. apple's great returns scheme means you can do it. you should be happy that you are ending up with an even better machine than the one you were happy to buy originally.

I bought it through the education store.

Yes, I noticed this too when looking at the mid tier and high end 27" through the educational store. I returned my 27" for a bad video card and other issues, but the educational discount does indeed cut that price difference to much lower (I believe mine was $23.)
