Why don't you just use bootcamp and play the game in Windows? I dont get it.

disgusting... no way would I want to run Windows just to play a this game.... let alone have to install it and lose access to OSX while running it.

The time, man, the time

Why don't you just use bootcamp and play the game in Windows? I dont get it.

Leaving aside the philosophical and aesthetic objections raised so eloquently by doh123, the practical reason is the delay engendered by the need to boot into Windows. This assumes one is in OS X and then desires to play Civilization.

Alrighty, so I got farther into the game today. Changed all my settings down to "low." It didn't look that much different, FPS stayed the same unfortunately.
It started chug once I once got to around the classical area, pretty painful to play.

Also Aspyr delayed their patch for next week. <_<

Supposedly patch (and DLC) is now live for Mac.
Looks like it was mostly another crash fix patch. I am still encountering a few bugs when attacking cities with aircraft. The damage numbers will stall or even more annoying animation issues. Ranged attacks in general in the late game get bogged down with a dozen units.

The Mac patch yesterday includes the balanced changes and new features that were in December's PC patch. It also includes the crash fixes from the hotfixes that came out during January.

The DLC is now available as well, and includes Steamplay on those, too.

Kinda frustrated by the new patch - AI now often aggressively packs cities in close, like 3-4 hexes between new settlements. Not sure how to deal with neighbors that spam cities so close to my borders. I'm tempted to raze and resettle, but it's a pain.

Also annoyed that I can't delete saved games from within Civ V - have to use the Finder. Bad bug!

Noticed that too.

Build a territory "fence" so their settlers can't pass through, then buy land on your opponent's side of the fence.

???? There's a "Delete" option in the save games screen....

That's not going to help in my current game; right now I'm being sandwiched by Russia from the north and Siam from the South. I feel like Poland (rotated 90 degrees). I'm going to try to eliminate Siam, but it won't be easy; taking cities requires siege units, which takes time and iron in the early game...

That's the thing: the button DOESN'T WORK.

I save a settler for iron. That and I try to chain the Great Library as a finish researching Bronze Working to get Iron Working as my free tech. I have a fondness for the Babylonian DLC civilization. In my last game I had Iron Working and Civil Service (45 turns to research) as my free techs.

In addition the Babylonian unique unit is the higher strength (6) and ranged attack (8) Bowman. They can survive on the front lines and if you have 3-4 they can even take on early cities.

The AI tends to spam cities that are within bombardment range of each other. It is miserable for attacking and for production. The AI appears to have no sense in city placement. (I am looking at you single Desert, Snow and Tundra tile cities.) Though it at least does go after Luxury resources.

In my recent games I have noticed that Building Maintenance has brought my economy to its knees far too often. I had to go Autocracy and Order just to get it under control.

The performance does not seem to have been improved for me which is unfortunate. Still very sluggish although skipping the intro movie seems to have stopped crashing.
