I was at a department store today, and lo and behold, it hit me ...

Don't harass me for my five-minute Photoshopping abilities.

Nice.

I also don't really care for the new design. I keep hoping every time I walk into an Apple Store (which has been a lot recently) I'll like it more than the last time. But I never do.

It looks so nice in photos, but in person it seriously looks like a microwave. The keyboard looks awful ... the aluminum looks really cheap with the white.

Yes! The whole thing just clashes. I wouldn't mind it if it was only 1 color or even two. But the combination of white, black and aluminum just looks awful to me.

I find both the iMac, the new Al keyboard and the mighty mouse very striking.

To each their own.

Pretty much ... when I went to buy the MacBook, I didn't own a computer, so I wasn't up to date on Apple news. So I saw the new iMac and thought, "Wha ... what is this!?"

It was right next to a white iMac too, and the winner was clear. :(

To each their own.

I'd be hard-pressed to say they're not striking.

Why is this bothering you so much?? You felt you had to start a thread about why you hate something so much.

Probably not the best way to make new friends in the iMac section...

I actually sold my white iMac to buy a AL iMac b/c I thought the look much nicer.

I actually found his sense of humor quite funny. I'm still buying an iMac in the near future, but that doesn't mean we have to like how it looks.

Personally, I LOVE the new iMac design. I own a 24" and I think it's just beautiful. The old plastic one looks so cheap and this new one... personally, adds some presence while slimming down the iMac. I LOVE the black backside and the use of aluminum is amazing. And I love the keyboard, I just think that they should've added a black border around it too. I hope they come out with an aluminum MightyMouse that has a bit more sculpting to it, that would be nice.

Sorry for having opinions about things? If people in the iMac section are going to be upset because I find the iMac looks like a microwave, I think they need to get their priorities in order.

I'm glad you like it. I'm not saying anyone shouldn't like it. I'm just making a joke. :)

Personally, I wish they'd make the iMac thicker and use all desktop parts.

ya, but i primarily bought it because of it's looks.

I had a C2D white iMac before, so not too much of a hardware upgrade.

I don't dislike it, per se, I like the aluminum. But don't think the combination with black looks very good. An alu mac with a carved out/ indented apple logo would look awesome instead of the black plastic Apple.

Not that this was a big factor. But I ended up getting the White iMac anyway, because I preferred the matte screen.

While I'm at it, I can't believe the alu is even thinner than the white mac. Seriously, I think that is almost an improvement that didn't need improving. (if you couldn't fit the white mac on your desk because of depth, you really need to rethink where you are placing your computer)

If the extreme thinness contributed even a little to all of the issues that have been reported with the display gradients, freezing and whatever else, then it is a grave mistake.

Wonderful idea you got there for the new screensaver...

Bag of popcorn spinning around on the screen and filling up, along with the nice popcorn popping sound.

Sure would beat flying toasters, since popcorn is a more popular snack food than toast.

And that's perfectly fine. Everyone just has different taste. Some people really love escargot, that doesn't mean everyone has to. Our opinion should not sway you from your own, nor should it make you feel less secure about it.

Ya true...

But am I going to seek out the escargot forums and say I HATE ESCARGOT?

I don't get this either! I have read this before from others and I am perplexed. To me it makes it look more PC-ish.

I don't mean to pick on you, I just find it really strange.

Thanks, but I know what the word means, and I did use it correctly.

Making friends based on their personalities is of HIGHER PRIORITY to me than making friends based on their taste in computer aesthetics.

I own a Mac, I'm on Mac forums, I dig the old white iMac (which I'm allowed to discuss in this forum, I believe) and I have an opinion about the iMacs design. Please learn to take a joke.

OH GOD PLEASE SOMEBODY MAKE THIS

Lol! Nicely done. (you shoulda cut off the top but that's me)

I still like it a lot more and the new design is what really sold me on it. I like my PowerMac and I can't wait for my new iMac. Maybe I'm into that raw metals and glass thing. I'm just gonna quit talking now.

I personally like the new style. So I ended up purchasing one about 3 weeks ago. It's funny because I never considered or wanted iMac until the new design was revealed in August.
Like most of you stated, it's a personal preference. I just happen to like the new ones alot more than previous gen model.

Seems a bit "strange" to drop a few grand on something that displeases you aesthetically but there again to each their own.

As a person who sold a white 20" Core Duo iMac to purchase my current 24" aluminum iMac I can say with confidence that I find the design of the new model more pleasing to my own eye.

I can't find the slightest resemblance to a microwave oven but if there is one that looks like it I'll keep it mind for my next microwave oven purchase too.

I'm glad you like the new model. :) I'd be hard pressed to say it's ugly, but it's more in the sense of ... well, if an artist I like is usually amazing and releases an album I would grade as average, I would call it a bad album because it is bad relative to previous works.

I need a desktop computer, can't afford a Mac Pro + 23" display, want the latest hardware. If I could get that in all aluminum (no black around the screen or white keyboard keys or mouse) or all white I would get it.

I personally was hoping the new iMacs would look like an ACD.

I totally agree with the OP. I was bitterly disappointed when the new iMacs came out - I just can't seem to like them, no matter how hard I try. The black just looks weird, and I never liked the curve which is even more pronounced in this model.

I personally think the G4 iMac has been the nicest so far. That thing had some serious class.

"Priorities" is used correctly, no arguement against it holds water. wakerider017 may not have interpreted the sentence the way it was meant.
