Decided to part ways with my Apple Watch Ultra 2. From owning the original 9 years ago and wearing one on my wrist up until now, I felt it was time to try and see just what it feels like to rid myself of it.
I purchased a Omega as my new wearable.
Sold the Apple Watch on eBay.
Now, I feel comfortably free and, for some reason, clear headed.

Give it a try.

I found you have to turn off any non critical notifications. You should try trading your smart phone in for a flip phone if you think losing the watch makes you feel free.

I have really thought about this as I went to about age 35 without a watch at all. LOL.

Yeah I just shut off most of the notifications I don't want on my watch or phone. That way only the ones I really want get through.

This way I don't have to get my phone out to skip 30 seconds in a podcast or to check the time. Or see where I am navigating to. But when I don't want to be bugged, it doesn't bug me.

I've never owned one and have refused to buy one since they came out. I am still refusing to buy one. The AW is Apple's answer to the LED notification light. Rather than add that to the iPhone, Apple wants you to purchase an entirely different device.

I'm not going to play that game.

I have my dad's old 1860s pocket watch that's been passed down, plus my own watch. I use those.

Yeah I have to admit, if I had a sweet 1860's pocket watch, I would use that too. :D

It sounds like the AW was never meant for you tbh, if you’re feeling “clear headed” now … but I’m happy for you.

I’ve started with S0 and now U2 and it continues to be my favorite Apple tool.

In the process of doing the same here. I started with an original SE, then a 7 and now a 9.

I woke up one morning and worked out it is completely less than useless. It gets caught on my bag all the time, needs feeding regularly, distracts me and doesn’t last very long considering how much you pay for it. I don’t need it. I don’t want it. And importantly I could buy some plane tickets for the price of one and go have some fun.

On eBay tomorrow. iPad probably following it too.

The Mac and iPhone are the killer tools.

OP should give up his car and all his mortgage and other ****, feel the real freedom now that we are on the journey.

I understand people are slaves to their devices these days but man, Apple Watch is low on the list of freedom snatchers I would say…

From time to time the thought of using a Watch enters my mind (though I would only use it as a pocket watch), but then I remember I'd have to recharge it every day (as if it wasn't already bad enough with the iPhone), which makes me quickly drop that thought again. I'd really just like a smaller and lighter phone.

I can relate, I was always quite against the smart watch even though tried a few times since 2016. Eventually got aw for a few reasons this year and I still consider it as a bad choice and would rather pick Garmin. Anyway, I get the fatigue of having them on wrist so my take - I’m wearing them to workouts and during the working hours to get important notifications if I’m afk (probs pooping and reading macrumors), during weekends I’m wearing proper different Swiss made timepieces. And I never sleep in AW, it’s enough to have a phone in the bedroom and I don’t have any conditions so don’t care about the sleep tracking. Biggest issue I see with people wearing smart watches - they start to become some data fanatics and record every bloody activity or analyze every bloody sleep time even if they never had any issues with the sleep.

P.S. - Omega is the right choice.

Same. I originally bought the Watch with cellular so that I could just walk out of my house without thinking about bringing anything else. But I didn't like having this thing attached to my wrist all the time, and then having to charge it once or twice a day.

But the tipping points were when I actually needed it outside of my home in semi-emergencies, the Watch was not enough, and I found that I really needed the phone in those situations for phone calls in noisy environments, looking up information on company web sites, a keyboard to type out longer and more precise messages, etc.

Moreover, more and more apps started giving up on their Watch versions, for me, some important messaging apps.

So I traded it in the Watch and never looked back.

That said, I would say there is no absolute right and wrong for everyone. It's a matter of lifestyle and preference. For example, I never depended on it for health/exercise features. It was mainly for business/social purposes.

I bought a Casio calculator watch and receive more positive comments than I ever had about my Apple Watch.
The Watch is redundant with everything my phone does, and the battery is s__t.
I'm done with Apple Watches.

I'd never worn a watch until getting a Samsung Galaxy several years ago, and then got an Apple Watch when we went back to iPhone's some years ago. I stopped wearing it earlier this summer and dont miss it at all. The watch was fine, I just dont like wearing things on my wrist anymore.
My mom bought me a digital watch in 1983 when I was 12. My first watch. Everything was great until I helped my uncle wash his car. It was at that point that I became aware of something called waterproofing - because that watch didn't have it. :)

Did exactly the opposite.

I recently sold my 2011 Omega Seamaster and got the Ultra 2 with the Nomad Titanium band, wanted to get something new.

I previously had tried a basic AW6 Aluminum back in 2020 but it didn't feel like premium enough as a replacement for the Omega.
The Ultra with the titanium band seems more like jewelry although it's still a far cry from an Omega.

For now, I wouldn’t want to live without Apple Pay on my wrist anymore but who knows maybe I'll get a new Omega at some point in the future.

I feel more free with the AW because it allows me to leave my phone behind and still be reachable in case of emergency. wonderful device, can’t see ever giving it up.
And here I've been working things a bit lately so I can leave my house with BOTH of my iPhones. SMH. When will I ever learn and just get with the accepted way to do things?! :D

Interesting to hear. A long time ago, when the AW first launched, I was involved in some long arguments about how I wasn't getting the AW and my reasons for that. Now, years later it would seem (if this thread is any indication) that there are Apple customers who no longer want the Watch.

Considering the overwhelming support for it and desire to get it at that time, I just find that interesting.

Never bought in myself. Another device to manage. Little benefit for the price. iPhone and Mac person. Ditched iPad years ago.

I wouldn’t doubt if Apple deliberately holds back capabilities of the iPhone where it would benefit the selling of a watch.
