So pissed. SOOO pissed. Drooled with the rest of you over this thing for months, raced out to brave the crowds and buy one the first day, rushed home to carefully unwrap and dock it, set aside the next few hours to sit and play and smile late into the night... and I see THIS.

A bunch of vertical stripes/noise.

So I'm thinking, hmmm... maybe this is what it looks like while it goes through the activation process, and then I will get a nice luscious "hello" message once everything syncs up... but as the minutes went by and I finished the activation process, my heart sank. Nothing. Just stripes. Of all the f!@#$%g iPhones in all the world one of the FEW (I'm sure) straight up lemons finds its way into *MY* hot little hands.

I don't hate Apple (yet) - I'm sure the exchange process will be fairly painless tomorrow morning, and you have to expect 1% of the zillions shipped/bought this week to have a dud here and there... I just hate MY luck to have been one of probably 3 people in the world who was welcomed by f!@#$%g STRIPES instead of that gorgeous interface we've all been waiting for.

This close. THIS CLOSE! Well, I waited this long, what's one more night? Time for bed...

Grrr...

rev a baby, rev a. but really that sucks I feel totally bad for you because like others, you waited for this crap.

That has always been my worst nightmare whenever I purchase some new gadget/car. Lemons FTL!!

damn that sucks. There's gotta be a way to try and do a hard reset somehow.

Looks like it's purely just a screen problem. The whole process went off without a hitch - activated in minutes, everything synced correctly without errors, sailed beautifully through the process according to iTunes, but on the phone i can't see a damn thing.

Tried the firmware restore and everything. No dice.

Anybody know what time the Pasadena store re-opens in the morning?

:(

Aww man, that sucks! Sorry you had to get one of the few lemons, that's such a letdown when something like that happens. Hopefully wherever you bought it (at least an Apple Store won't) won't give you much trouble...they better not.

Hope the apple policy is not like the aT&T policy. Apparently all returns have to be handled through Apple. So you would have to supposedly ship it back to them.
Please report back what happens, hopefully they can swap you out.

That really really sucks, I was nervous about that happening to me. One of the ladies at the Apple store was talking about a 24-48 delivery time on DOA iPhones if none were left in the store.

They'd NEED the armed escorts to protect them if they tried that with me. I see them more so trying to weasel out of the swap simply due to not having many to sell to begin with.

It seems if it wasn't the blue apple screen of death, then you'd have a pixel or two problems on the screen. From my personal experience and others that purchased the phone, I guess that's what happens when you make a screen that dense that noone else does...more chances for little white/green/ect. dots to pop up.

Good luck getting that replaced.

Pasadena store

I'm pretty sure it opens at 9 am. Good luck! Seemed like they had plenty.

Why would someone wait to buy an iPhone, rush home, find it doesn't work, then rather than getting in touch with Apple, join this forum and post negative info about iPhone? And be joined in the discussion by Apple!Fre@k, who earlier posted that availability in Tampa meant Apple had flooded the market, and that aapl stock was going to take a big dive on Monday, or soon thereafter. This kind of stuff smells funny to me.

Sounds like he's positive and taking in stride to me.

I'm guessing you might be screwed because you activated it. They aren't going to give you a phone and swap SIMs and ESN numbers and all that in the Apple Store.

Best of luck - i think you are facing a send off since it's activate :(

Dude! I feel awful for you man, I couldn't imagine that happening, sorry hopefully you'll be up and running ASAP. My condolences to your lemon of an iPhone

My macbook did something like this once, I removed the battery and reset it and it worked fine after that.

great tip- take out the battery and retry! :)

In all seriousness, that sucks. But it does look like this is the exseption. Eager to hear what happens at the Apple store- hope they fix it for you.
