hey guys,

my warranty is almost up in less than a month and i recieved a letter from apple that tells me my warranty is about to expire.

now that i think of it, i am not sure if i should get applecare. I mean, anything that happends to my iBook can be my fault such as the harddrive dying or a dead pixel and apple could say it was my fault and they won't replace it. in addition, the guidelines say that apple does not cover wear and tear of cases, key caps, and batteries. so if my battery is low, apple will not cover it? i don't really understand what apple will cover.

anybody found applecare bad or beneficial for them and tell me what happened them you?

on a sidenote, applecare does not cover accidental damage while my friend tells me that dell does for (i think) $79.

thanks.

Yes if you want to keep your iBook for the next 2 years. No if you intend to change within 6-7 months.

CompUSA vs Applecare. Huh. Definitely CompUsa. Both costs 250$ for a 2 year coverage(I compared the MacBooks. Dont know bout the iBook coverage.) But CompUSA gives you complete cover.

Definitely go for CompUSA in case you intend to keep this iBook for the next few years.

Yup. I bought my PB through Apple but purchased the CompUSA warranty through them w/out a problem. They just had to do a quick lookover to make sure my laptop was in working order. :p

That's good to know. I think I'm goin to do that, and get that education discount @ Apple. How long after did you purchase the warranty after your puchase of your Mac?

It's $183 for Applecare with the Education discount. But I guess CompUSA's full coverage is better.

I wasn't sure of the details so I just did it w/in the first (included) year of AppleCare.

Another option that i currectly have for my Dell laptop is Safeware.com. They are amazing. For 90$ a year they cover everything from hardware failur to accidental damage. This year my harddrive crapped out on me, called them up they sent out a box 4 days later got it back new hard drive cost me nothing. And while i was moveing out of school i dropped a can of clam chower on the top of the laptop (I know im really stupid for that one), so it cracked my LCD screen called them back and a week later got it back new screen and no deduction. These guys are amazing and the service is fast. The charge varies on how much u insure it for, but in my opinion this is the best way to go. When i get a new iMac before school im totally getting this.

Designed to cover laptops, desktops, tablets, PDAs, peripherals, and other portable devices against accidental physical loss, which can easily render a system inoperable. Also covers software included with the purchase of your system. Equipment is covered against the perils of Accidental Damage, Theft, Vandalism, Power Surge, and Natural Disasters at any location within the United States, Canada, and while in transit.

I just checked their site, and this sounds really good. Almost too good to be true. $90 for a full year coverage of all that? I filled out their estimate sheet and it came out to be $45. You sure it's not a monthly thing? Has anyone else used these services?

Thats what i thought when i first looked at it, but i origonally found the service in pcmag i belive, don't really remeber for sure it was over 2 years ago. But i have yet to have a problem with them. For the price i only pay the 90$ (which is what my price came out to be) every Augest.

I'm goin to have to investigate more. Cause this deal kicks the other ones in the ass, and from what you said, the service is great.
