Do you get to keep the iPod if you return the computer? That would not make sense IMO.

I was told by the apple store that if I bought a macbook or macbook pro, and received my free ipod with it and a new revision came out within 14 days that I could exchange the old notebook for a revised one AND keep the free ipod.

Question:
When you get the student discount, what do you need to present as proof in order to actually receive the student discount?

i can't speak for the rest of the waiters but i, myself, am waiting for a revised mbp with a user-replacable hard drive along with merom. if the hard drive is not user-replacable then i will continue to wait.

Same. I'd get one now if the drives were user-replacable.

A price drop would be nice though. :)

Photo ID plus proof of enrollment. Usually a letter or just a print out of your course schedules will do.

ADC is apple developer discount

You can sign up for a year for an apple student developer account. It cost $99 for the year but you get free os upgrades for a year and a one time 20% off hardware purchase. You just have to fax apple a copy of your student id and class schedule. They approved me in less than 12 hrs and I am not even a computer major but an education major rather. I just got $500 off the mid ranged macbook pro 15.4 inch..

Edit: for those that have the MBP already will the extender cord from the old style power brick (G4 PB, iBook etc) work on the mag safe power brick? It looks the same how it clicks in but i cant tell by photos.

I've been checking this forum like a hawk the last 2 weeks because of my plan to buy the MacBook. looking for warning signs. I havent posted anything about it though. so far, my observations reveal that the pros outweigh the cons, just get the Applecare and that should take care of that. anyway, wish me luck guys. I'm taking the plunge this week!

price drops

let's say in photokina they do anounce a new MBP or MB.

what is going to happen to the current MB yonah prices? should we expect a price drop? if so how much?

these are the questions I m waiting to get mine. i surely won't wait for the new systems to come out.

by the way.. good luck and lots of fun with your new MBP :D

I did the same. I was waiting since the spring when I first heard rumors that there would be a new chip come the fall. So I waited and waited. After WWDC and nothing was released then September 5th nothing was released I said the hell with it. I needed one for school so I got one. That's the rule right? If you need it get it. I am very happy with my decision. I love this machine. I'm sure the new one when it comes out will be very sweet as well. Maybe I will sell this on ebay after the new ones been out for at least 6 months. But I'm so happy with this one I think I might just keep this and be happy with it.

I'm expecting MBP's to get upgraded to Merom and MB's to stay with yohan for the time being with no price drop right now. I honestly think Apple needs to separate the pro machine from the consumer machines on something besides graphics.

Sadly I think there is a lot of people one this forum who are waiting for a new macbook that are going to be very disappointed.

I dunno... I'm feeling pretty good about Apple introducing Merom MB's pretty soon. I just checked the Apple Store online and MB ship dates are 5-7 days. Of course, I'm probably wrong, but I do think that even if Apple does update MBP's at Photokina with Merom that Merom MB's will either simulateneously be silently updated or that they will see updates soon after. Anyways, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If it works, does what you want and doesnt have any problems I would keep it.

a one-time hardware purchase... that's different than one hardware purchase. Like, suppose I wanted to buy a new MBP and an 80GB iPod at the same time, 20% off all of it? :)

Who do I send the fax to (does it matter that I go to school in Canada)? I'm fortunate enough to be able to wait for the Merom upgrade (12 in. PB, don't fail me now!), but the free OS upgrade early next year will be nice in addition to the 20% off.
