I have been an Apple iPhone user since iPhone 4 which was my first iPhone and I love iPhones and I never really have a problem with the updates but I literally despise and hate this iOS 18 update. It is the worst ever update. There are so many little stupid glitches & malfunction now that my phone has that I never experienced before and it is solely due to the update. Especially how they redesigned the entire picture and photo album app like why it was perfect the way it was before?! I wanna go back to the previous update prior to iOS 18. I hate it and I just wanna leave this review somewhere because if I can prevent anybody from majorly inconveniencing their life and causing unnecessary aggravation and frustration and stress with this stupid update, then so be it - DO NOT update your phone to the iOS 18 if you haven’t already yet you will really regret it if you do. Just a warning since I can’t seem to figure out how to leave a review on the Apple website, they gotta make that impossible to figure out so that you can’t talk **** about their ****** ass update. Sorry for the language, but I am so frustrated with this update already. Have a nice day happy new year, rant over.

What glitches and malfunctions have you been experiencing? I haven’t had any problems on iOS 18 but I’ve waited till 18.1 before I updated so maybe this is why. So far there hasn’t been any major changes to bother me with one exception.

The Photos app is complete trash in my opinion. I’m not against having all these new features, but there needs to be away for me to view my photos in the chronological order. I don’t care if that’s a new tab a button I click I should be able to see all my photos and videos in order. Oh, but people will say you can just scroll down to the “Library”. That doesn’t work all the time. I’ll download a video or photo and it’s not there.

I’m not stressing about it too much because I suspect with all the negative feedback Apple is getting there’s going to be an update at least allowing a regular view of photos without all the garbage. As I said, not against having extra features and I think they’re great, but there needs to be a way just to view photos in chronological order.

As a workaround, I believe you could use a third-party app to manage photos. Perhaps someone could make suggestions for photo apps that are not cloud based backup apps? For example, not Google photos where it stores and analyzes photos on Google servers. Just an app to locally view and manage photos. The photos are already being backed up on iCloud.

Considering iOS 18 has been out since September, I think it's a little late to be warning people about not updating to it.

I agree that the photos app needs to be redone but that's the only specific thing you call out in your rant. The rest of it is "glitches and malfunctions". Is it possible that you haven't taken the time to properly learn how iOS 18 works?

As for Apple caring/not caring about whether or not people like the update, I'm sure they dont care because the ONLY thing they care about are the sales numbers for iPhone sales.

But like @Speed38 said, embrace change. iOS 19 will be here before you know it and hopefully Apple will have fixed the photos app and made improvements to the "glitches and malfunctions" that you are speaking of.

Relax and take a breath.
An awful lot of people don’t like the new photos app. Took me a few days to get used to it, but it’s just not that big of a change.
I’ve been running dev betas since iOS 16. Now on dev beta 18.3.whatever. Never looking or going back.

"I have been an Apple iPhone user since iPhone 4"

I never understood people mentioning this. What the purpose saying it? That you are experienced? Because you are clearly not. You don't like changes and being able to adapt to new things is also an experience.

IMHO it will be worse. With the help of AI there will be a more and more fragmented structure of categories, albums etc. like "all photos with a grey sky","all photos with a dark grey sky", "all photos where you have had a higher pulse from sport", "all photos while you were unhappy regarding health app" and so on..you get the idea.
It will be a desaster.

That´s my guess.

I think the suggestion is that they have updated their IOS since version 6ish and adapted without issue, but this is the first time it was too far.

Nobody's going to embrace change for the worse. They might tolerate it, but not embrace.

Post #1 a temper tantrum rant?

I really like 18.2 on my 15PM. I think Apple did a great job with.

You didn't mention which phone you are one, nor what things are an issue.

But posting on MR, you have left your opinion for the world to see.

I’m guessing this part of my post got overlooked by most due to everyone focusing on the negativity. Any suggestions for this or is it not a thing?

Get a grip, man. Embrace change. It's coming whether you like it or not. But I bet you feel better after posting, right?
I can’t agree with this. Just because something changes doesn’t mean it’s an improvement. Even if it is an improvement for some, it might be a downgrade for others. A good example is when the MacBook Pro went super thin with only USB-C ports. For some people like myself this was perfectly fine because they didn’t really use those ports and others weren’t happy at all. I don’t think everyone is going to embrace a change they dislike.

Maybe Apple Intelligence could help with creating paragraphs before hitting Send :)
I totally agree, but like many of the new features, it doesn’t work on “old” iPhones like my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Maybe he doesn’t have the newest iPhone. This will be helpful when I reply to a post after just waking up, then read it later thinking what did I just say 🤦‍♂️😂

"I have been an Apple iPhone user since iPhone 4"

I never understood people mentioning this. What the purpose saying it?
I think it’s to point out they’ve been using the product and happy so far but now don’t like the change. For example, one could say “I’ve been drinking Guinness beer for the past 20 years but now that they’ve added 10% horse piss, it’s just not the same”. IMO it was unnecessary information that distracted from the main point of the post.

Not enough detail in this post for it to be truly helpful. You mention nothing specific except the Photos app. Outside of the Photos app it's pretty similar to iOS 17 except with more features.
This is a good point. I asked this in my reply because I don’t see a big change other than the Photos app. Maybe they will clarify this.

I’m not sure what the #1 IPSW is? They’re are some helpful tips in the #2 video and article to declutter the Photos app. I think changing “sort by date captured” to “sort by recently added” was a big usability improvement for me. Maybe the OP will get something out of that.

it is indeed an ultra buggy release. Apple was too busy with gimmicks like their AI nonsense.

This is patently not correct, except for the very first beta. Many people will experience glitches early, partly for bugs, partly because everyone has so many different apps installed, including apps that did not come from the App Store.
Up to dev beta 18.3.whatever - no issues.

Maybe no issues for you, but don’t speak for everybody. I’ve got a load of issues on all of my devices running this latest **** show software.

Great. Glad you had a good experience! Doesn't make my experience any less valid. I've owned iPhones since the first one in 2007. This, in my opinion, is the buggiest iOS ever.

I don’t understand all the hate with the photos app. The first thing I see when I open it up is my camera roll in reverse chronological order. 🤷‍♀️ The only thing I hate about the Photos app is iCloud always pausing syncing to optimize battery or whatever the heck it’s doing. Is there a way to shut that off?

I’m not speaking for everybody as is shown in my first sentence. If there are a load of issues on all your devices, there’s either something incompatible on the devices or possibly a bug in your systems?
Can you list at least some of the **** show problems?

Would not try to invalidate your experience. But just saying it’s the buggiest iOS ever has no meaning.
Please give some examples, I’d like to know.

Which iPhone are you using ? iOS 18 is far from being perfect, and some app like Photos and Mail are not great, but it is not so bad. In many ways it is better than the previous version.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it is arguable at best.
Every single release of an iOS version is full of threads like this, with people complaining about “the worst version ever”.
iOS 18 is a complex iOS iteration, considering the introduction of Apple Intelligence (still to be completed). A software bug free doesn’t exist, and the more complex it is, more glitches it could have.
There’s nothing wrong with iOS 18.

Well, to be honest I don’t love it. It is way too complicated and it requires a little customization to be really usable for me. I’m not really complaining about Photos, but for sure it is the thing I like less in iOS 18.

OP I agree with you 100%. I've been using the iPhone since the first and this release does feel less polished overall.

My phone felt slower, the battery was worse, and there was just general glitches across the OS. I don't know how more people don't see it 🤷🏼

After a month I downgraded to iOS 17 (when it was possible) and have been monitoring threads around the net to see if much has improved, because I would like to use my Apple Watch again, and sequoia mirroring.

So thanks for confirming it's still rubbish! it seems Apples point release so far haven't been about bug fixes - just feature additions. Maybe it will be better by 18.3 or .4.

The OP posted some general negative comments. Hasn't been back. Didn't detail their experiences in any fashion. Seems like a hit and run post.

Of course it is. And as I said up-thread, likely a burner account for someone else who was too embarrassed to post their "computers are hard" rant using their regular account.

I don't know how more people don't see it 🤷🏼

Because it's not real, that's why. Lots of "I feel..." and "I believe..." rants on MacRumors, almost no "I tested the following set of critical actions on iOS 17 and iOS 18 on the same device configured identically and was able to identify the following possible regressions and am looking to see if someone is able to reproduce these tests..." with data listed. That's how you identify a bug, that's how Apple or any software developer identifies a bug. Perceptions are not bugs and will never be treated as bugs.

Okay mate. Dismiss what you have to. Doesn’t make it true.
