I didn't like it at first on my X. Thought it was way too yellow. But I forced myself to keep it on just to see if I could get used to it, which I totally did. Now when I turn it off, the whites seem so bright and bluish and harsh that it feels like my eyes are gonna bleed.

I have noticed that TruTone on my iPhone X is often slightly warmer than it is on my 9.7 inch iPad Pro under the same lighting. I wouldn't say it's anything like NightShift, unless you have your NightShift temperature setting dialed way down. Right now I'm starting at the two side by side with TruTone enabled, and they look pretty much identical in terms of color temp. But that's with fading daylight streaming through a window. Once the darkness falls and the warmer indoor lighting comes on, I do see a little bit of a difference. Not enough that it bothers me. By any chance do you have a screen protector installed that covers the sensor notch? That could possibly affect how well TruTone reads ambient light.

It just has a wider color gamut. I’ve tried to emulate the appearance of the iPhone X on an 8 Plus with Night Shift and it’s not possible.

Again, I *like* TT on iPads and looks nice on iPhone 8plus. And subtle.

It does not look nice on X. Or subtle. It looks like night shift not a neutral white sheet of paper ambient light dependent

I have looked at many X units, they all exhibit the same intensity of TT

... Is this really a tough concept or
Am I just re explaining my simple observation to diehard apologists ? Cause I can’t help but feel like the latter is what’s happening.

I’m baffled

It's possible that TT works less well on the LED pattern in the OLED displays than on the LCD displays.

The other possibility is that you're just looking at it wrong.

I prefer cooler screens (non-yellow). Before true tone existed, I am always cautious of yellowing of displays. On my iPhone X though, I have true tone enabled, but the screen is not yellow at all, it's slightly cooler, which is what I prefer. I do purposely enable night shift mode at night though, which does intentionally yellow my screen to not affect circadian rhythm, but I've been more than satisfied with true tone.

Yeah but i dont wanna fuss with the default color setting.

My panel is perfect.

And not sure what ‘my pleasure’ would be, to cover the spectrum since it’s ambient light dependent and one setting wouldn’t address all.. i think it should just work like TT does on my iPads
can u take pictures of your iphone x screen? (TT off, full brightness) mine looks kinda yellowish :/

Any reason why not?

"Best thing ever"... I mean come on. If someone said "this cure for cancer is the best thing ever" I would consider to agree.

But ok. True tone makes the screen WAY to yellow in my opinion. Looks like crap.

True Tone is not for everyone and may draw wide criticism because it’s one of those so in your face kind of changes. I didn’t care for it at first either, as it looks so yucky, but slowly appreciated what it was trying to achieve.

I have not noticed that much of a difference, but on the other hand, I had not looked for that particular detail. Perhaps it is because I have an all black background and lock screen...
